Both Tech and ULM are kept in Div 1 through taxpayer subsidy. Neither program remotely breaks even.
Tech can survive in the FBS without the added institutional support, especially if revenue streams continue to increase as they have been. However, why refuse free (sort-of) money?

What's funny is that a lot of these people are conservative Republicans. If you talk about making up for past discrimination of minorities, they'd be quick to say the past is the past and we should all move on.
However when their ox is gored, they want some sort of "affirmative action" program and "reparations" for their athletic programs to make up for the past and to "level the playing field".

It was just a matter of time before a tech poster pissed off a lsu poster. Hey tech, keep battling with ulm. A team you can compete with, maybe.

Free? Oh, I see. It's not real money. It's some of that gub'ment money.
My friend, that is money from the pockets of the hardworking taxpayers of Louisiana. Shame!

Tell that to the Saints.

Circumstances are different than 20, 50, 100 years ago. If colleges were all starting from scratch today, there wouldn't even be one in Ruston. Both it and NW State are anachronisms. If anything, now more resources should be directed towards LSUS, that serves a larger metropollitan area, than say Tech or Northwestern, both being in rural settings. ULM is likewise well placed to serve a broader area.
So college towns are obsolete now? You would think, in the modern information age, that geographic locations are less, not more, important now.

So how many more millions in the hole and to what end?
Tech produces engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, etc. and is building a research park that will serve the region as well as the whole state.

Where are any new fans coming from? Do you even do any realistic market research? The economics and demographics of your surrounding area simply don't support your ambitions. Hence there will be even more subsidy in the future.
Actually, Tech has great potential here. Few schools draw their fan base only from the city/town from which they are located. Tech is the only national university in North Louisiana, near Southern Arkansas, and I believe, near East Texas. Within this circle, Tech is building a market.

$4.6 million direct institutional support? Building up the El Dorado (Arkansas) market? And how many fans do you see coming to Ruston out of that market?
Being from North Louisiana, I can tell you that imaginary state line is a hard line. I was watching the LSU/Arkansas game in Ida, LA (maybe a mile from the state line) a few years ago where everyone was solidly for LSU. At halftime we drove maybe five to seven miles away into Arkansas to a restaurant and finished watching the game in a room solidly for the Razorbacks, except for us of course.

Keep it up xiv. You are owning these tech bastards.
This is getting out of hand, Tech fans. If you bought Tech for what they're worth, and then sold Tech for what they think they're worth, your wealth would make Fort Knox look like a tent.

What's even more amusing is that it appears there are newly registered TD members who have joined us just to defend the honor of Tech.

Isn't that what Tech pays its English Dept. chaiman?

I was at Tech the last two times that we played NLULM, the only rivalry feel that came from the games was from the older fans. Separation and perception is the reason why Tech does not want to play NLULM, that is also why we joined the WAC instead of the Sunbelt Conference when it was formed. If we would have kept playing ULM and Sunbelt team we would be perceived as a Sunbelt team. Tech is now recovering from the hole that our past AD put us into and we are making steps in the right direction. As other have stated currently there is no room on the schedule. LINK AS others have stated about revenue that is also why Tech plays these away games to help fund our program, Tech would stand to lose money to travel to NLULM. If NLULM really wanted to play us then they should have taken the the game that was offered.

The simple fact that "right direction" has been bleated so many times by you people is evidence of the pathetic delusion of a program that thinks it's worth a shite.

And as far as Tulane goes, we will outrecruit them in their backyard again this year.
Nice to have LA recruits (create local ties, pipelines, etc.), but I'll take the best recruits available, LA or not.

They want to play us, we don't want to play them. If they really wanted to play us they would have taken the terms given, just to get a game. ULM and the Monroe press s just blowing smoke up people's asses. If the game does happen in the future will your arse be in the seats?

I think this is the difference between Tech and ULM. Tech has aspirations of bettering itself. ULM is just interested in playing Tech and supporting LSU's football program.

quote:So does ULM. One of the ways to better your program is to rivive its most historic (and unfortunately dormant) rivalry to create buzz and fill seats. The fact that you people actually believe that Tech has ambition but ULM does not is evidence of the most faggy brand of elitism possible.
