I saw the Brotherly Shove stopped like 4 times this weekend. That is a strong enough reason NOT to ban it IMO.

If it's not unstoppable the advantage should not be forfeited.

Chargers didn't seem to have a problem defending it last night when the Cowboys ran it on 4th and 1 from the 13 in the 2nd quarter.

Who else has used this play successfully...ever?

The Eagles own this play because they are the only ones running it successfully. To change the rule would be penalizing them and only them.

Spot on. This is the Eagles signature play. Nobody else runs it well. I am NOT an Eagles fan by any means but they created it and deserve to reap the rewards unless and until most (every) other team can execute it with the same proficiency or until there are injuries.

This. I was telling my buddy this same thing last night when the Cowboys tried it and failed.

It’s not an unstoppable play for everyone, just the Eagles. Hurts may legitimately be the strongest QB ever. Dude can squat a small vehicle.

ETA: Now, when/if teams start lining RBs up under center with other backs and a TE pushing them, you have a problem. Right now it’s just an Eagles problem.

Are you fricking serious with that question? It gets defended just fine against every other team not named Philadelphia.

Seriously, the QB is the most protected player on the field.

Not when he's running. How stupid can you be with this take?

The play should be illegal, unless they change the rule to also allow defenses to push the pile backwards

I'd say the eagles have been running a lot longer than any other team considering they came up with it. Just like when the wildcat came out and the dolphins ran it the best and other teams tried and could not duplicate their success.

As if it takes ages to run that play efficiently enough to gain a yard or two...

Dumb comparison. The only difference in the wildcat and any other shotgun formation is a position player taking the snap instead of a QB. There's alot more nuance to that play than the "Brotherly Shove". Just like the Jump Pass.

The Eagles are literally just pushing a guy. Everyone else just really sucks at mimicking what they do. I mean, some of the videos on YouTube of failed tush pushes look nothing like what Philly is doing. Alot of teams aren't even getting a push on the o-line, let alone the QB.

Because they probably practice it more than anybody else. How hard is that to understand? That is a brand new play to the nfl. On top of they have one of the best lines in the league. But whatever you say.

It used to be. Hence the term "touch down".

Bring it back! I’m so sick of TDs being called for lightly grazing the goal line with the a-hole of the ball.

It really isnt a rugby play either

Anybody who actually watches rugby will tell you it's nothing like a scrum. The O and D line aren't binding before being told when to push.

It isn't like a maul either.

It's genuinely quite insulting to the game of rugby to say it's a rugby play. The whole OLine would be offside if they tried to do this.

No, they can’t. Once the ball carrier in the pile starts moving backwards, the play is dead. It’s inequitable

Oh My God, Someone is better at something because they practice it more?!

Gee, who could have thought of that?

Now you have me convinced it should be banned...

I hate the play but I hate the idea of it getting banned even more.

It's only been legal for like 15 years. Banning it would simply revert back to the old rule. It's an indefensible play if you have a big QB with two offensive linemen pushing him from behind
