It sucks because I think our 06 team might have been the most talented team in the SEC this decade.
Our 05 team was just as good as our 06 team imo

Nice to see Dodd as stupid as ever.

The thing about USC is that regarless of the crappy conference and that they breeze by every team (or should) they are still consistently good. They are not paper champions like a Hawaii in 07 that have no business in the top 5. Thankfully, in 03, 07, and 08 they lived and ultimatly died by their schedule -- they were justly punished for their loss(es) whereas SEC teams were not.
I don't think they deserved to go to the big dance in any of those 3 years but they have remained consistantanly good whereas LSU really fell off in 08 and to a lesser extent in 04. UF had "down" years in 03, 04, 05 and 07.
It all depends on the criteria when judging "team of the decade" I'd unfortunatly have to say USC becuase they have been the best "team" through the decade. If you say only LSU and UF to this point it would be the same argument for saying Oregon State is the team of the decade for baseball because they won 2 championships.

I think UF already has us beaten out by a little bit to be honest. Simply because I think their 2nd NC team was better than our 2nd NC team.
Arguments for LSU:
More division titles
More BCS bowl wins
More total bowl wins
Better overall record
Better SEC record
Better bowl record
Argument for Florida:
Head to head (5-4)
Even:
National championships
SEC championships
BCS bowl appearances
Total bowl appearances
I really don't see how Florida rates better than us at this point. Obviously, if they beat us and win the SEC title, let alone the national title, this year, then they probably move ahead of us. It's that close between the two. But if either is ahead of the other right now, it has to be LSU.
To have the discussion without LSU even in it, as idiot Dodd did, is so stupid that I'd even call it sportswriter stupid.

If LSU & UF only had 1 title like USC, the discussion would go down to "how tough was their road each season". USC gets 5 auto-wins a year from Wash, Wash St, Arizona, Stanford ( except for one season! ), and UCLA. The only teams that are real threats each year are Cal & Oregon, and teams like Oregon St and Arizona St fall somewhere in the middle.
We all know the path the SEC champ has to take, with possible double jeopardy in the SECCG. Miss St is the only team currently on the cellar level as the Wash teams. The SEC host 2 NC caliber teams in UF & LSU year in and year out, then teams like UGA, UT, Bama, and Auburn who have won / should have won / in position to compete for a NC.
Win the PAC-10 with 5+ conference wins on schedule every year and you get to the Rose at a min. NC contention really pivots on 4 games and those games are nowhere near the level of matchups found in the SEC ( ex. UF vs LSU ).
Win the SECCG and get to at least the Sugar. NC? Depends - there is only 1 auto-win in the SEC right now. Every other game is at least the mid to upper level 'threat' found in the PAC-10 schedule, with some games in the elite matchup range ( again, UF vs LSU for example ).
But none of that has to be discussed, bc UF & LSU don't just have one title - they each have two. Even suggesting USC surpasses one of those two programs this decade puts you in a 'special' group of drooling bib wearers.
/End of that 'debate'.

Remeber that time the almighty Tigers went to visit these "middle" PAC 10 teams and escaped with a W due to moderate miracles??
Just Sayin'
Just cause USC normally runs over these teams doesn't mean that these teams necessarily suck.. It could just mean that USC is that much better..
I used to think like you that USC was bullshite and the PAC 10 was completely weak..
I agree that the SEC is harder to get through.. but I also gaurantee that LSU and Florida's combined 4-0 Natl. championship games would show a different record had those games all been against USC..
IF we are doing decade though.. i say USC, UF, LSU.. If we are doing last 5 years.. I say 1a.UF 1b.LSU 3.USC..

Absolutely no way USC is the team of the (as-yet unfinished) decade. Here's why:
1. Essentially weak conference and powder puff schedule year after year.
2. At least one ugly loss to clearly inferior teams year after year.
3. Pete Carroll's shameless manipulation of the press year after year.
4. Dominant conference, talent and schedule strength for LSU and UF year after year.
IF UF wins the NC this year, you have your winner. LSU a close second.

Yes, but the basically win all their games, and all their "big" games except 1 (Texas and lost by 1 pt)

Yes, but they also never lost mulitple games like LSU and Florida have in seasons

Irrelevent

True, but they both fell off a few years and we're not talking conference, but teams.
I hate to admit but I agree with Vlad up there, and USC is the most consistent, therefore "best" team over this time period. I also don't count 03 as a championship, but they have remained good the whole decade minus 00 and 01. LSU has had 3 "off" years and Florida 4 "off" years.

You guys are killing me. The Rant is in rare form. You quickly dismiss Miami for the way they've fallen off, but conveniently leave out LSU losing 5 games TWICE and 4 games once since 2000. USC is 93-22 since 2000 while LSU is 90-27. THIRTEEN of USC's losses came in 2000 and 2001. So since 2002 USC is 81-9...EIGHTY ONE AND frickING 9!!!!!!!!
I don't think you can say who the top team is until after this year. To just say "UF and LSU are the only two teams in the discussion," is just foolish.
BTW, LSU ranks 7th this decade in winning percentage while Florida is 9th.

If either one of them wins it all this year, they'll probably claim the team of the decade (and rightfully so).

If Oklahoma wins it this year they still won't finish 1st. Yes they have made alot of Nc games but this would be there only win.

2000 and 2001 hurt USC as far as "team of the decade" consideration, 5 and 7 (Damn, Hackett!) loss seasons are appalling. Since then though, USC has been the most consistently excellent team in college football.
If LSU wins it all this year, I'd have to give it to you all, based on # of Championships won, and the bowl record and BCS record.
If Florida wins it all this year (or loses in the BCSCG, you still have to consider them...) then they probably take it, though they have been much less consistent then either USC or LSU.
If USC wins it all this year, I don't think anything else matters. You would have a 7-1 BCS bowl record, an 8th conference title, 2 BCS NCs and 1 AP NC.
Texas is a bit of a dark horse along with tOSU but even though they have claimed a MNC each, they are still a ways behind the other three.
OU deserves honorable mention, and that is about it.
