Yes. The decade is looked at as well, in addition to each season--a decade is 10 years. A ten year body of work.

With your method, team A with 3 NC's will not considered as having a better decade than team B who has no NC's or BCS bowls, but a better record and no losing seasons

I don't think the same can be said for OU. Their recent BCS troubles hurt their argument greatly.

Even though they have way more Big12 titles, BCS games, and NC appearances?

I think OU >>>> Texas this decade

Where is USC twice on the list?

You do not understand the recency effect. People will put more weight into recent seaons when evaluating all 10.

So if the Patriots don't win Super Bowl XLIV, they have no claim on Team of the 00s because they won their titles in the first half of the decade? (Pretend there's no Spygate. 2 > 3*)

Boise State ends all hope of OU being named the team of the decade.

Folks, there are two years left. not one. Decades beging with 1's and end on the 10 (e.g., 1-10, 11-20....2001-2010, 2011-2020, 2021-2030, etc.)

The 80s do not include 1990 just think how stupid that sounds.

If USC wins the NC they are in the discussion, but if they do not they aren't in the discussion. LSU and UF both have 2 NCs and more impressive credentials to back it up. USC has been impressive in the Pac 10, but there is no way they would have done that in the SEC. The SEC has had at least 5-6 big time programs competing this decade(UF, LSU, AU, UT, and UGA; somewhat Bama but not really). Those 5-6 programs are better than the other programs outside of USC in the Pac 10.

2004 USC - (Coaches and AP)
2003 USC (AP)

Right there.
In case you missed it, the BCS themselves called 2003 a ' "split decision" with LSU winning the coaches poll NC and USC the AP poll title" '. Many here e-mailed the BCS for more than a year complaining about their statement.

Considering the competition, these details have less weight.

more BCS bowl wins,

IMO this is the stat that puts USC in the discussion more than anything.
quote:

equal NC's as LSU, one less BCS NC.

Ditto.
quote:

USC is ahead. They'll wrap it up this year or next. Book it!

Not so fast. I would say that USC has been the most consistent of the three since Pete has been there.

And I'm not trying to argue that LSU is the team of the decade but any article written on the subject that does not include them is invalid.

I put (BCS) in parenthesis....because I was going off what the colleges agreed to use for a championship system.

Not in 2003, which is why every rational person, including the media, calls that a split title.

They are 9th in winning percentage for the decade so far and they are the easy choice? The rant is that way ----------->
