what the frick does chuck oliver know about anything?
while chuck and chernoff may be the best radio show outside barnhardt and durham they are hardly personalities that have valuable opinions.
GT really adds nothing at all, they'd only dilute the share. outside of academics they seriously add nothing.

Calling the current ACC the new "Big East" is ridiculous. The core teams (I should include Clemson as they are a charter member) simply annexed some of the better teams that so happened to be a part of the Big East. But we all know that the Big East was a monstrosity of a revolving door and in size as well. What, like 20 teams in bball or some shite? Oh, and we got GT and FSU from the Metro conference......

And traditional rivalries.
As an AU fan, I'd love to play Tech on a regular basis again.
UGA may be the big brother by a wide margin, but I think the state of GA might be worth doubling down on.

A top 40 academic school that is typically top 25 in every major sport for both men and women and happens to be in atlanta, one of the college sport capitals. I see nothing that brings value.

I would love to hear you justify the addition of texas a&m and mizz but not GT.

Because Georgia Tech brings no new markets and A&M and Missouri do.

Sure, we have a few former Big East schools. So what? That's a far cry from being the new "Big East" you so often spout. The core of the ACC is Duke/UNC/UVA/Maryland/WF/NC State/GT. That will be difficult to change.
Those first 4 are rumored to be drawing B1G interest if the starts getting raided. NC State and VT are drawing interest from the SEC, and Miami/FSU/GT/Clemson may be teams 11-14 in the Big XII.
Sounds real stable.

This will be his downfall. He can rest on his lofty standards while his conference turns to shite. Don't compare the ACC to the Big 10 and the Pac 10. The ACC is not in the position of strength that those conferences are.
Are the millions of TV dollars lost worth maintaining the illusion that your conference brethren have to be similar academically? That is one of the dumbest standards I have ever heard of. What do Arizona State and Stanford have in common? Arkansas and Vandy? It's a cowardly argument.

Drawing interest = internet rumors? All of what you said above is speculation based off an irrate/incoherent tirade of an angry FSU BOT chair.

Markets go way beyond the most recently negotiated TV contract. They have to do with fanbases, recruiting, footprint, culture, and many other things.
Those schools expanded the footprint of the SEC and made it stronger. Adding Georgia Tech would have done nothing. That is not a knock on Georgia Tech as an academic or athletic institution. It is just a matter of geography.

If those schools bolt to the Big 12, does anyone think GT can't go to the Big Ten with UVA and Maryland? I don't think GT is that worried. They'll find a spot, so long as they do their diligence.

Agreed. GT and a few others in the ACC are too 'valuable' to just get relegated to the abyss. Someone will snatch them up.

Damn if that's true Mizzou and TAMU did the Big 12 a BIG favor. Talk about some good TV contracts.

There's a reason we got the SEC invite and they did not.

There's a lot more than just one source to the B1G wanting to raid the ACC rumors, and I'm pretty sure you're not arguing against the NC State/VT mutual interest with the SEC and FSU/Clemson/Miami/GT with the Big XII.

I don't think Georgia Tech would be fricked at all. If the Big 12 does go after FSU, Clemson, and Miami, why not add Georgia Tech to round out the Eastern side? Just make the jump to 14.
Then you would have something like:
East
FSU
Clemson
Miami
Georgia Tech
West Virginia
Kansas
Kansas St
West
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
OU
OSU
Baylor
Iowa State [didn't know where else to fit them]
Edit: this would also ease up on any travel concerns
The more I look at it, I kind of like that conference.

The Canes might be a packaged deal with FSU. That rivalry means a lot, and FSU is not going to play in the Big 12 AND play UF and Miami out of conference.

Big 10 is interested in adding Tech if all this goes through.

And now Clemson's Board of Trustees is meeting tomorrow to "get everyone on the same page regarding possible realignment and to address all of the rumors that have surfaced in the past week regarding that topic".
LINK
So when does a BOT meet to discuss rumors? Only if they're considering taking some action.

I presume you mean Georgia Tech and not Virginia Tech given your TD moniker.
Though I would not mind seeing GT in the Big 12 (since I could go see them play TCU) a B1G move would not be bad either as I have BTN.
