Frustrated with what he viewed as a lack of support from the University, Jones opted to leave Hawaii at the end of the 2007 season. After initial reports had him interviewing at SMU, Hawaii officials had offers to raise his salary from $800,000 a year to $1.7 million a year and offered a commitment to improve its facilities; in addition there was an outpouring of support from Hawaii fans, including Gov. Linda Lingle. However, Jones contacted Hawaii on January 7, 2008 and let them know he had decided to accept an offer from SMU. Jones said the work that needed to be done to improve the football facilities and the campus in general would never get done with him still there. He said after all of the broken promises, leaving was the only way to send a message. Jones went 76–41 at Hawaii, including 4–2 in bowls. His teams finished first in the WAC twice and second two other times.

The above is lifted from the W page that I cannot spell :)

SMU needs to quit killing the clock. They need to play possession and keep the ball away. Every down and out seems to go out of bounds.

I think TCU will dominate them in the 4th Qtr but right now I'm impressed with SMU. I was already sold on TCU being the real deal defensively

Padron got his bell rung. It's about to be a really long night for SMU.

They've always managed to keep it close for a quarter or 2... Then TCU just eats their souls.

The comment the announcer made about June Jones knowing TCU's defense makes a lot of sense. I think that explains a little.

What is so ironic is TCU lies right in the heart of the Bevo 10 (aka Big 12) yet they have Baylor in that conference rather than TCU. Those folks in Texas are screwed up. I guess UT didn't want the competition.

It doesn't make any sense. They were in different conferences

I want to see Texas play TCU.

Anyone else with me.

TCU would blow them out of the water, IMO...

SMU's QB(Padrone) is loopy. This game could get ugly.

Did you see the officials in the UT/TT game last week? There is no way officials let UT lose. Can't wait for the UT/Nebraska pay back bitch game.

When you have a QB like Dalton you're gonna bring the heat!

Well, you are revising the history a little bit.

You have to remember that the BIG XII was a merger between the Big 8 and the SWC. Between those two, the Big 8 was the dominant party with teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Colorado (who was good in the early 90s).

This is evidenced by the fact that all 8 Big 8 teams made the new super conference (including shitty teams like Iowa State and Kansas), while some decent Texas teams in the SWC got left out (TCU and Houston, specifically - Rice and SMU were terrible and Arkansas had bailed for the SEC).

Anyways, I believe the decision to include Baylor over TCU or Houston was based on academics and Baylor's strength in other sports like track and field.
