the LSU brand is going to be getting stale soon like OU if we don't change things.

A&M "took a chance" and it worked. There is a lot of momentum there now. Having to deal with them and Bama ain't gonna be easy.

it's funny how OU's offensive coaching tree has produced so many good OCs/HCs

*ETA: some better than stoops

If we had a better search function I would pull up the threads from 2009. Those threads were pretty common on the MSB, especially after the Ole Miss debacle. For most people it was one of three guys: Sumlin, Harbaugh, or Brian Kelly. People liked Sumlin because of his potential to recruit in the SEC. I wasn't sold on him yet and preferred Kelly. Harbaugh was blowing out USC with Gerhart and a young Luck at the time.

There was definitely sumlin talk I wasn't sold as it seemed when his stud qb at Houston got hurt his team had a rough year. With keenum they were awesome. When stuck with frosh broadway they had issues.

The biggest meltdown ever woud be if UT threw the bank at Sumlin and he went there when Mack gets fired/retires.

I like the guy, but coaches have had first year success with a new team and then fallen off.

Not saying he will fall on his face, he definitely deserves respect, but I'm going to have to see what happens next year.

That was a solid bowl win, but the SEC wasn't exactly great this year. Yeah, they lost only two games to Florida and LSU, but Arkansas, Auburn were down. Ole Miss is a little better than meh, miss st wasn't much, and they played mizzou for their other east oppone
nt.

eta: with all that said, wins over Alabama and Oklahoma in the same season is something to be proud of. And I'm glad they won, I heard enough talk from people here in Houston saying the SEC was overrated since aTm was able to do what they did.

maybe it was hiring him as OC in 2007

It was really 2009 when we were fed up after OM and maybe 2010.

Xeno had a Sumlin in LSU gear avatar that I stole for a while, so that is at least 4 of us.

We could definitely do a lot worse, but his offense better evolve, if he wants to win championships, IMO.

Oregon had trouble consistently winning that conference with a similar scheme.

It's much more difficult for that type of offense to consistently control the ball enough, to get critical first downs in short yardage, than it is for the ball control offense to open it up sometimes.

They'll win a lot of games, but percentages say they'll never consistently be able to run through an SEC type conference, unless of course the SEC offices move to College Station and improve their schedule.

Look at what Muschamp and Chavis did to that offense in their backyard. Both teams beat A&M with PUTRID offenses.

I mean, really think about how terribly inept the LSU and Florida offenses were this year. Yet, they won at College Station.

Alabama, coming off a game they lost on the field at LSU, spotted them 20 in the first quarter, then went on to show what Saban's teams will do more consistently.
