Oregon had trouble consistently winning that conference with a similar scheme.
Do you mean the SEC cause they won the Pac 10/12 3 years in a row and this tied with Stanford for the best record.
Oregon is more run based, their problem was if they got behind, they had trouble throwing the ball with Thomas. I think Mariota is better, but Manziel is way better. Also A&M will have an easier time getting elite defensive players. They could be Florida(SOS, UM Fla) West.

Look at what Muschamp and Chavis did to that offense in their backyard. Both teams beat A&M with PUTRID offenses.
Florida was week 1 with a freshman QB. LSU did a good job, but they still could have won the game with a competent kicker.
Florida under Meyer had no trouble with a similar offense. A&M can get good defensive players, if they do, they will be really tough to beat.

Too much pressure on the QB position.
What did Meyer do without Tebow?
The system calls for a QB that can make great decisions all the time, and remain healthy all the time.
Tebow did it, Newton did it, and Manziel did it.
They all won the Heisman.
So, all the system needs is that. Good luck.

Sorry.
That's wrong, but he did win the Heisman.

What did Meyer do without Tebow?
17-6 at bowling green
22-2 at utah, undefeated season in his 2nd year
won the nc with a part time tebow in 06
undefeated this year with ohio st
i would say not much
he's probably 2nd to saban imo

Regardless if who and when it was discussed, Sumlin would have been awesome at LSU. Instead we get to try and beat him every year.

where does he go?
Agreed, outside of the NFL is there another job in the country worth jumping to from aTm ?

Posted on 1/5/13 at 10:53 pm to GeauxZone90
Because he runs the offense.

SFP, despite the flack, and at times whack takes, was always a big Sumlin, Brian Kelly, and Chip Kelly backer..especially Sumlin. I remember.

2 great Ds shut them down, shocker! Also didn't they play Florida really early in the season? If that game is later in the year after odds are A&M is playing ND tomorrow night.

but his offense better evolve, if he wants to win championships, IMO.
Ok so you're saying the #1 offense in the nation (doing so playing in the conference with the best defenses in he nation) should evolve? Evolve to what? What Miles has trotting out there?
Besides the fact that Bob Stoops will lose a big game, college football is fairly unpredictable but it is fair to say that A&M has a great shot next year. They get Bama at home and LSU on the road but they're likely in the title game if they split those games.

We're talking about this hurry up spread offense and how it translates to championships in the SEC.
So, what does any of that mean?
Meyer couldn't do it without Tebow. He had Newton lined up to take over, but we saw what happened.
Newton took it to Auburn, and Meyer left Florida scrambling. Their offense is still suffering an identity crisis.

I have no idea what that emoticon means.
I'm not a fan of the hurry up spread offense, and I don't think it will consistently win championships.
Too much pressure on the QB position from a mental and physical standpoint, and entirely too much pressure on the defense.
Nick Saban has one goal when waking up every morning. And its winning championships. When he implements this system, I'll take a second look at it.
Matt Maucks, Matt Flynns, Greg McElroys, and AJ McCarrons are easier to find and replace, than Tim Tebows, Cam Newtons, and Johnny Manziels. And they don't risk your overall team's success and reaching its goal on every snap.
Ball control helps the defense. You need to line up under center, have a fullback, and grind out tough yards when needed. Alabama has done this better than LSU most recently.
Bama and LSU's QB's have changed, but the systems have remained the same. And both teams have been serious title contenders since Saban took LSU to NO in '03, and Bama in '09.
What about Florida and Auburn? Florida without Tebow. Auburn without Newton.
I know Kelly has had success on the West Coast with multiple QB's, but no ring to show for it. I do think a system like that has a much better chance outside of the SEC.
The SEC has the highest percentage of NFL players and the best defensive minds coaching them. There's a reason the NFL hasn't embraced this system. Let's see how Kelly fares. Let's see how Tebow, Newton, and RG3 revolutionize the game.
My money's on defense and ball control every time. There's still going to be anomalies, but I would prefer to see LSU more in the mold of what has worked to keep us in the hunt every season.
We need the next Russell Wilson or his backup, not Johnny Heisman and a gimmick. Of course, I still believe in sacrifice bunts, too.

So, it seems they consistently won their conference, but played in one title game?
No?
And Oregon will now go through a huge transition without having won a title.
Yep
The boring style of offense that Bama, LSU, and Florida(now) have a much better chance of annually competing for championships, than A&M does.
There's 25 QBs or more on the rosters of college football teams across the nation that could have LSU or Florida playing ND Monday night.
Even the great Johnny Manziel couldn't get A&M there.

Sumlin is good, but lets see how A&Ms defense progresses over the next few years. He could look like Hal Mummy in a few years. Just with a better program.

He will do damage in the SEC as long as he's there. Great recruiter located near the ocean of Houston talent. He lets kids play to their strengths and doesn't over-coach. If Texas would've done that with VY sooner we might have won another NC.
When does the NFL come sniffin around Sumlin? We all know the extra incentive for that to happen, aside from being a great coach.
