Where do you stand?

quote:

SEC administrators hoping for a smooth transition to an expanded, nine-game conference schedule may face a stiff breeze of opposition next week on the sandy beaches of Florida when spring meetings begin Tuesday in Miramar Beach.

Alabama is on the verge of a surprising endorsement for eight conference games after Nick Saban voiced frustration with the SEC's three proposed permanent rivals for the Tide (Auburn, LSU and Tennessee) should the league expand to nine games. Should the program follow Saban's battle cry, the Tide would join forces with at least four schools in opposition to the proposal for a nine-game schedule beginning in 2024, sources tell 247Sports. Administrators from 16 SEC schools, including future members Oklahoma and Texas, gather Tuesday through Friday to discuss two models:

An eight-game format with one permanent rival and seven rotating opponents

A nine-game format with three permanent rivals and six rotating opponents.

quote:

Seven schools prefer expanding the schedule to nine games, sources told 247Sports this week. Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State and South Carolina oppose the nine-game model. Both models eliminate the SEC's Eastern and Western divisions, and will require new tiebreaker rules.

I’d like to see a 9 game SEC schedule and the 3 OOC games be against the power 5.

IF we’re going to 12 team playoffs, I’d like to see a shite ton more data on how good these teams really are.

If we have to watch 9-3 teams make a goddamn playoff, we need to know which of the 9-3 teams are halfway decent.

It does seem like they stacked a few teams with some tougher opponents based on their recent success, while also potentially losing some long standing history. Probably a better solution out there.

An 8 game model does not really work with 16 teams. 15 other schools, 3 perms, rotate other 12 schools on the other 5 games. Math doesn’t work. 9 game model, 15 other schools, 3 permanents, 12 teams, rotate 6 other teams every year

Basically, until fans vote with their asses and stop paying for season tickets when the home schedule looks like UGA's this year, the conference will continue to take a giant dump on its base, and ask how it tastes.

I thought Saban was the first SEC coach to really start pushing the 9 game schedule

Shocker...

Can't drop 4 rent-a-wins a year...Troy, McNeese State, the Citadel and Louisiana-Lafayette as traditional Bama rivals.

The Pac is on its way out but once upon a time they got it right for CFB fans and didn't shirk anybody.

Round-robin...everyone played everyone... No b.s. unbalanced schedules and Conference champ games.

Should Saban or any current SEC coach really have a say in the matter? The vast majority won’t be around in 5 years anyways.

All the teams in the country to bitch about OOC schedules and you choose Alabama.

Explain to me why you always deny that Alabama has wrecked your soul.

As long as we don’t lose the November rivalries against Lamar and the Citadel.

What a weekend that is!

Without extra money for television I don't see more than 8 conference games happening.

If the money was there I'd prefer 10 conference games. That still leaves the two out of conference slots for the traditional games like Clemson, Tech, and FSU.

It would be a disadvantage in the sense of making it harder to get middle tier teams bowl eligible and upper tier teams into the playoffs so you do need a financial payout.

Saban needs to stfu. They get easier schedules more than anyone and now he’s finally going to be forced to play a tough schedule year in, year out? Boo boo sorry you can’t get vandy as your permanent opponent Little Nicky

The SEC is going to do what Saban/Bama want anyway. If Bama was paired with Vandy/Mizzou he would be pushing for the 9-game schedule.

Shocked this isn't working out like the "bridge scheduling" farce a decade ago.
