I'd rather see LSU play Vandy instead of Western Illinois or The Citadel or University of Louisiana Lafayette.

This is all a push by the broadcasters to cut out as many schools as possible to lower how much money they pay over time. It's the entire reason ESPN created the Power 6/Power 5 designation.

Was there ever a time in history where smaller programs got a fair shake?

College ball has sold out anyway.

Accept it and just live with which ever path they decide to follow the money to.

There was a time when the SEC was a 12 team league and it was common to play only 6 SEC games. When the SEC had ten teams well into the 1980s there would be teams that only played a 6 game schedule. So Nick is not that far off-base. But I don't believe ESPN/ABC is paying the money for Alabama to play The Citadel, ULM, Eastern Michigan, and Southern Miss at home.

For obvious reasons, that’s a game I hope doesn’t get played.

Here is the stupid part of the 9 game analysis.

Right now, going from 8 games to 9 games potentially eliminates 7 games from the espn inventory.

A game for Bama against Arizona st... a game of vandy against hawaii... both get scrapped to get Bama to play Vanderbilt.

So instead of ESPN publishing 2 games with 4 fanbases watching, they are scrapping it for 1 game with vandy vs Bama.

It is so short sighted.

haven't fans bitched about paying full prices to see buy-a-win blowouts? so now we're trying to give them what they want

now will say this. if a 10 game conference schedule is coming, that means no team has to lose a home conference game, and the split will be an even 5 home, 5 away for everyone

How?

You are just as likely to get a vandy as you are a Bama

You overestimate the quality of the SEC.
Last year, only 4 out of 14 teams had winning conference records.

Mediocrity.

I don't see where the 9th game adds value to espn.

I already described where it loses a game of inventory.

I already described where potentially 4 fanbases would be interested in 2 OOC games, and that interest shrinks to 2.

Why rely on a scheduled pattern through the entire SEC conference (including the below half) when teams could schedule 2 quality opponents (not just rolling through the conference 1 by 1... but actually fitting quality matchups)?

He has his right to turn it down due to lack of fairness.

Saban needs to stfu. They get easier schedules more than anyone and now he’s finally going to be forced to play a tough schedule year in, year out? Boo boo sorry you can’t get vandy as your permanent opponent Little Nicky

Make a deal with Nick Saban. Let Alabama have Arkansas to be one of the 3 permanent opponents.

How’s that?

Nick was saying it by having to play 3 top teams and that wouldn't be fair for Nick and Alabama. Nick Saban should have known better that those three tough permanent opponents will be there for him and Alabama. Maybe make a deal with Arkansas to make one switch and the deal will be set.

Alabama never plays more then one power 5 OOC game anyways, they should be the first in line for 9 conference games.

I can certainly understand why South Carolina and Kentucky would be against it.

I also prefer to see Georgia do what they’ve been doing outside of this upcoming season due to Oklahoma joining, and that is playing two power 5 OOC games every season. Georgia always has Tech and someone like Oregon or Clemson.

Why doesn’t Alabama schedule two power 5 OOC games every year?

Shocked this isn't working out like the "bridge scheduling" farce a decade ago.

You mean where bama played 1 east team that finished in the top 3 team for like 7 years?

So he’s not against a 9 game schedule, he just doesn’t want Alabama’s permanent opponents to be the best programs in the league?

But Saban had no problem having Tennessee as Bama’s permanent cross-division rival when he beat them 15 straight while LSU’s permanent cross-division rival is the team that has won the SEC East 17 times since 1990.

Nick Saban voiced frustration with the SEC's three proposed permanent rivals for the Tide (Auburn, LSU and Tennessee

I will get attacked for this but whatever I don't care. Seems like Saban isn't pissed that his permanents are Auburn, LSU and Tennessee. The real reason is that he doesn't have a clear decidedly advantage over all three coaching wise like he has had most years. I say this because them 3 have been permanent opponents of Alabama if I am not mistaken every year since 1964. So why is it playing the 3 suddenly too tough for Alabama?
