well i don't know about automatically calling a guy a superstar just bc he's one of the better players at his position. brian mccann has made the all star team what 5 years or so.. just about every year of his career?
troy he has never had triple digit rbi numbers. he's only hit 30+ homers once.
and he's only hit over .300 once.
to me a superstar needs to maintain elite production for 3 years before i consider him one. which i agree like others have said.. "he is becoming one"

Who cares about home run production out of your SS. I want defense, a high OPS, and leadership.

And Tulo has all of these things. If you define a superstar by popularity, then no, he isn't one. If you define it on baseball ability, then he is. Anyone who doesn't think he's a great baseball player hasn't paid attention for a while.

okay i understand it's not about homers, but baseball is about numbers.. he's hit over .300 1 TIME. ONCE. UNO.. he's hit 30 homers, one time.. but u said who cares bout those.. he has NEVER driven in 100 rbis. hell Jeff Fracouer could even drive in 100+ on the braves pathetic lineup.
i guess i just have a different opinion of the definition of superstar..
i agree he's one of the best all around players currently. i still like to see 3 years of elite playing.
i'm sorry but in today's time people are so quick to just label a guy superstar bc of one or two seasons.. usually just one is all it takes.
so i'm guessing at one point andruw jones was a superstar right?

is brian mccann a superstar?
atleast he's hit over 300 twice.. and currently on track for a 3rd time.. he's consistently hit 20+ homers and been an all star the past 5 years straight..
4x Silver Slugger Award winner as well.
but i'm guessing no right?
what makes joe mauer a superstar? he doesn't have 100 rbis either.. he only hit 20+ homers once, but the man has hit for avg of .300+ a good 5 years or so.. so he is deserving to me.

he's a SS dude
and he has more RBI than any SS since the start of 2009 season.
and more HR's. And the highest SLG percentage.
do the math, thats nearly 400 games.
and if he hadnt been injured most of 2008, he'd lead all those categories dating back to 2007, when he had a great year. But his injury riddled 2008 broke his streak of great seasons
jeff francouer couldnt hold his jock.

He had played one season before 2008 so it broke his one year streak? His BEST year was 5 seasons ago in 2007 and he wasn't even that great then. He is NOT a superstar. Its laughable that you think he is just because ESPN said so the first 2 weeks of the season.
