So is Howard; he is one of the premier black players in the league, which grants him superstar status. Plus he seems like a nice guy and is a good community dude as well.

I'm a Braves fan and I love Howard. Dude can fricking mash. He reminds me of the classic first basemen... big, power hitter, average to below average in the field... he has a role and he knows what it is: to fricking crush the baseball. I love it.

Not yet. He could definitely be considered one by the end of the season.

Take a look and see what direction Hanley's #s are going the last 3 years.

Do the same for Tulo

Tulo's career averages are nearly identical to Hanley's despite playing less games.

not to mention his defense is on another planet than Hanley's

I think Tulo > Ramirez.

NOt sure I'd call either a superstar. But I'd define a superstar less for their actual ability and more for how well known they are. I think the following guys are SUPERstars:

Pujols
Josh Hamilton
Jeter
A-Rod
Manny (was)
Big Papi (maybe)

Not sure who else... But I'm just thinking of guys you could walk up to the average person and they'd know who it was. I wouldn't say Tulo or Hanley is in the category yet (though both have superstar talent).

Eh, he had a down year by his standards last year. But he had an unbelievable year offensively in 2009. He hits for average, he hits home runs, he steals a lot of bases, he had two consecutive seasons of a .400+ OBP. One down season, in which he was still very, very good, doesn't mean a guy is instantly not a superstar.

Hanley has a higher career average, OBP, OPS, HRs per season (Tulo missed some games in '08, but they'd still be about even here. It should be noted that Tulo is playing in Coors Field, while Hanley plays in whatever they are calling that huge arse field in Florida now), stolen bases, etc.

His numbers aren't nearly identical to Hanley at all.

That being said, I think Tulowitzki is better as of now. However, that's not what I'm arguing. Hanley has been viewed as a superstar my many educated fans and analysts over the past few year, and probably still is right now. Tulowitzki isn't yet, but he will be very soon.

You shouldn't even mention his name anywhere near Ryan Howards

Howard may be a bigger name, but at this point Tulo is a much better player

Depends on how you define superstar.

If it's not as much about on field production and more about name recognition with the masses, he is most certainly NOT a superstar.

Simply put, Jeter is a bigger superstar than Tulo. There ya go.

I don't think the casual fans really know who he is.

I don't think he's a superstar based on that line of thinking.

It has nothing to do with his play.

avg year for Tulo is 23 HR/83 RBI 364/504/869

Hanley 25HR /78 RBI .385/521/906

consider Tulo has a season factored in which he played 101 games and that is pretty impressive.

yeah, hanley steals bases, but Tulo plays GG defense.

guess you would have to define casual fan.

anyone that watches SportsCenter 3-4 times a week would know who he was.

You and I agree very much on this.

But if Tulo gets to the break with 20+ jacks and continues tearing it up... he'll be broaching that "I'm so good everyone knows who I am" level.

He has had 3 great seasons for a SS

Last season

Tulo - .315 AVG .381 OBP .568 SLG .949 OPS
Howard - .276 AVG .353 OBP .505 SLG .858 OPS

You are really going to say the terrible defensive 1B is better than the gold glove SS that puts up better offensive numbers?
