Actually when followed properly it did work. Unfortunately we had politicians not following their own guidelines or just fricking up massively and then we also had grown children that acted like putting on a mask was one step away from being sent to the gulag

It doesn’t and hasn’t worked in real life because people don’t want to adhere to the rules because they interpret the rules as oppressive and draconian and there is no enforcement mechanism that would be effective at scale, ergo the rules are ineffective. Reminds me a little bit of Prohibition or the war on drugs.
And I’d frankly argue that many of the imposed rules are just flat out ineffective at accomplishing anything in their own right even with perfect compliance. For example, bans on outdoor dining or making people build little tents outside to dine in instead of allowing them to simply dine indoors have not been shown in any studies I’ve seen to have any meaningful impact on COVID transmission rates.

This is the thing that people like dawgfan123456789 don't understand. No one is forcing people to go out in public. If you're deathly afraid to have the sniffles for a week, then stay home.
This tournament and all sporting events should be open to full crowd capacity and let people decide for themselves whether they want to go out or stay home.

I had it. That's all it was. I had the sniffles for a few days and I got tired faster than normal. Other than that, everything was fine. I didn't even miss any work.

If you think perfectly healthy people are catching this virus and suddenly dropping dead, there's no helping you.
The numbers have been grossly inflated from the beginning because there has been incentive to inflate the numbers. There was a guy who died in a motorcycle wreck who was considered a covid death because he had it when his wreck happened. I am of the belief that shite like this is happening everywhere.
