Arizona/ASU wouldn't even come in my top 10 of college football rivalries, much less all of sport

There is no list on that article but you can find it on the site I posted
This basically sums up why it’s ASU and Arizona

Because they literally don’t have any other rivals

quote:

The professors sought out hard-core fans of North American professional teams and college football teams and asked them to allocate 100 points among their most hated rivals. A Minnesota fan might allocate 50 points to Wisconsin, 40 to Iowa and 10 to Michigan. Other fan bases might target their dislike more sharply. A U.C.L.A. fan might give 80, 90 or even all 100 points to Southern California.

The top-scoring rivalries by these criteria are not necessarily the most famous, or the fiercest. Rather, they are the ones where neither team has any other significant rivals to steal away points.

It’s really not all that difficult to comprehend since other schools have other rivals
They use the following website that fans were surveyed from to see who they hated the most and allocated those points to

LINK

When it comes to CFB I really can’t think of another rivalry where it’s just 2 schools

Just using my rivalry as an example.
Among the 100 points that a fan is given
South Carolina fans gave on average
67.29 to Clemson
20.17 to Georgia
6.39 to Florida
3.26 to Tennessee
And a bunch of other schools that had less than a 1 point average
(UNC, Arky, Bama, Vandy, Kentucky, Auburn, LSU and NC State)

For the #1 which was ASU-AU
AU gave 89.25 to ASU

For the Egg Bowl:
Miss state gave Ole Miss 78.22
10.91 to Bama
5.33 to Auburn
And others but I’m getting lazy

What I did find shocking was Ole Miss
45.02 to Miss State
44.85 LSU

When I think of rivalries, there is nothing more intense than Toledo - Bowling Green.

Red Sox vs Yankees should be up there

It's been a nothing burger for a while. Back when Joba and the Greek God of Walks were playing it was a different story.

I know this is sarcasm
But when you’re two teams with literally no other rivals
This is pretty true

I think the most shocking to me was Ole Miss
On average Ole Miss fans hate LSU as much as Miss State
I thought they’d allocate more points to Miss State for sure

UG fans have UF #1 but "no UG fan thinks UF is our biggest rival" according to experts on the Rant.

Rays-Sox? I guess that the Rays fans rated that 60 and the Sox fans rated that 1.

Exactly. Rivalries kind of become an after thought once you're winning national championships.

A list only a couple of lefty professors who would rather watch reruns of Hillary Clinton than actual sports would come up with.

Lakers-Celtics hasn't been a thing for what...40 years?
