Very myopic views. The games this year were closer than last years first round. And of course, the four team playoff was blowout fest, 14 of the 30 games were decided by 20 or more.

Tulane joins these schools in getting beat by 20+ in a playoff game:

Florida State
Oregon (x2)
Oklahoma (x2)
Michigan State
Ohio State (x2)
Notre Dame
Alabama
Clemson
Cincinnati
Michigan
TCU
Washington
SMU
Tennessee

James Madison actually lost by less than the average college football playoff game since its inception

But this year, we've the added coach mobility and players aiming for portals to further degrade the quality of games.

I enjoyed the first two games. And last year's games as well. You guys act like there are no big school blowouts during the regular season. Not every game comes down to the wire.

They have to fix the G5 problem.

I think we are going to see at minimum two blowouts on the quarterfinals again

putting Tulane against OM again was dumb. No matter who you put in, you will have some blowouts in the first round. even the NFL has them in the first round.

If you look at the setups for next weekend, it's pretty good. JMO

3 of 4 games over a touchdown spread is pretty ridiculous for a playoff

I’ve said it before, but part of the charm of college football was not having to actually see these games play out.

if Tulane or James Madison had ended their seasons in a great bowl game and got a close win, their fanbase would be happy and the season would be a milestone and live in lore for the program

and fans would always think “man, what if we could have a shot to win it all. we might win” but it gets to be a hypothetical

for example, Boise State over Oklahoma is always cited as an all-time great bowl game and one of the best games of all time. Boise wins 42-41, great moments, great for the program. Their fans think “man, we could have won it all if only we had a shot”

if Boise State got stomped by Florida 45-20 in a playoff game instead, the season just ends on a downer and fans aren’t happy, players aren’t happy, the season ends with no historical context, etc just like what happened yesterday.

The lore of college football and greatness/fun of bowl season is completely gone

People were bitching during the one-score game yesterday between two P4 teams.

I just don’t know why we needed a playoff. We should have stuck with BCS bowl affiliations, and after all that we have a championship game 2 weeks later based on the best 2 teams after the bowl games.

It would have allowed the bowls to remain relevant, teams to end on good notes, and we would have our 1 v 2 championship game that doesn’t devalue conference titles or the regular season.

Agree. Unpopular opinion, but when the AP would choose a different national champ than the coaches poll things were more interesting.

People just need something to bitch about. I can’t even remember how many highly anticipated bowl games turned into complete blowouts including some for the national championship. The cinderalla upsets like Boise beating Oklahoma and Tulane beating USC are far more memorable than a couple 2 or 3 loss P5 teams playing in the first round of the playoff. We all know there’s only maybe 3 teams in any given year that are truly above the rest.
