Dear lord, this is just ridiculous and will never stop will it? Why should people be forced to do that even if the guys aren’t qualified? Special privileges should not just started to be handed out because someone is a minority.

I'm mad about the lack of opportunity for white CBs.

The same folks who don't think minorities make good HC's or coordinators. Are the same folks that think white dudes can't play cornerback.

The same dudes who play slot receiver in the NFL could make way more money being cornerbacks. But they were steered away from that position.

Christian Mccaffery could be a stud cornerback.

And does Chico Rivera count as a “minority” head coach?

Kliff Kingsbury was a really bizarre hiring. 35-40 record in college and had a losing record with Patrick Mahomes as his QB. Yet somehow he actually seems to be doing a decent job with the Cardinals. Go figure.

Offensive guys like Kliff and the guy who got the Giants HC job have a huge leg up when they’re interviewing with the owner.

They can snow the owner while looking young and dynamic and calling upon the successes of McVay and Payton.

I never said it was a good idea. But it was Russillo's suggestion to the issue at hand. Frankly the NFL's nepotism problem has a good bit to do with the prospect pool as far as coaches are concerned. For every Kyle Shanahan or Harbaugh brother. You have a Jim Mora Jr and it's not just an HC problem.

It was obviously racist for the Browns to fire Freddie Kitchens after one season.

Do you have a link for this? Quota hiring doesn't sound like something he'd suggest, unless it was sarcasm.

Over the season I've started to look at the Kingsbury hire in a different light (Granted they have massive defensive issues). People tend to focus on the fact that he didn't have a successful record while at Tech. But he was clearly hired because of his offensive philosophy and not for what he did with the entire program. I just have a feeling that if a dude like Willie Taggart pulled the same moves. That he wouldn't have backtracked his way into a NFL gig.

The first thing I question about #1 is: Why is the player pool 75% black when the general population is about 13%?

I don't think anyone should question which race as a whole is more athletically skilled.

When the opportunity isn't being presented to you and you see other colleagues (Vance Joseph & Steve Wilks) being fired after 1 season. You probably start to question whether or not you should even stick your neck out for the position.

Frankly, I think it's an issue where owners don't care or they may not see a correlation between winning and hiring black HC/assistants. So I can see why guys like SAS voicing their concern that the NFL only has four minority HCs.

You could use the same argument regarding white players. That’s an even bigger disparity. Where’s the outrage or is merit based success only good sometimes?

That's way worse than the pointless Rooney rule.

Is this the "Why don't we have white cornerbacks?" argument again?

I think this is a very simplistic way of thinking about this. Could it be that white players with high IQs get into coaching sooner because they flake out and can't make a roster due to lack of talent? These would be people with current knowledge of NFL scheme, film, players, mathcups etc...Think Tony Romo but with a headset.

I.E. Kellen Moore

quote:

1) Despite blacks making up 75% of the NFL player pool, only 9% of HCs are blacks.

Not only is there just a 3% disparity between the black HC population and the general population. But again, this could be just the fact that most of the NFL players are from the South because that's where the football talent is concentrated. Whereas the coaching talent could come from all 50 states so should be compared to the general population of football players throughout the country, which is mostly white.

Because the bottleneck is going from position coach to coordinator, not coordinator to HC.

Flores looks to be a solid hire with Miami. It remains to be seen how the front office does providing him talent, but i thought he did a hell of a job getting players to buy in and actually win a few games. I thought at the beginning of the year the Dolphins might really go winless.

Anthony Lynn had a bad year but it looks like he'll get to stick around to oversee the transition into the post-Rivers era.

There's some up and coming guys like Bieniemy that will get a chance. Byron Leftwich has moved up the ranks pretty quick and is already an offensive coordinator so he could possibly make the jump to HC in the next few years.
