Has to be someone they would want. Are you saying the Steelers have no players that you would trade for ?

How would they take a hit if you trading equal salary for equal salary?

Because they are the Jags… and Lawrence has been basically ineffective.
Lawrence has had Urban Meyer’s regime and Zach Taylor’s shittier younger brother Press calling plays for 75% of his career.
The year he didn’t have those guys he was an up and comer and had a great year for a 2nd year guy.
I’m not saying he’s what he was touted to be but with the hand he’s been dealt so far there is really NO way of knowing.
As a jags fan it would be retarded to trade him with all the modern offensive guys and QB centric coaches Coen has brought in. Coen has built a hell of a young staff IMO and Lawrence is still relatively young.
Coen turned another previously disappointing guy in Baker into a very productive QB this year. Udinski is largely touted with Darnold’s improvements. Lawrence arguably has more physical tools than baker and Darnold so you’d think they’d like to finally see what a modern nfl offense looks like with him.

No, I’m saying if I’m the Jags I’m making them give me players and picks. Fitzpatrick alone isn’t enough to sweeten the deal, it would need to be Fitzpatrick plus at least one other starter level player and picks.

This QB class sucks.

If I’m the Saints, I’m offering #9 overall for Lawrence immediately.
You ever heard of the salary cap?

Trevor is the 19th highest paid QB by cap hit this upcoming season. However "mid" you might (wrongly) think he is, he is better than the 19th best QB.
quote:Nope. $30M dead cap hit from the 4 years left that the cap hit from his signing bonus was spread out over. Future guaranteed salary that hasn’t yet been paid by the Jags would count against the new team’s cap. Jags would only take a dead cap hit on money they paid out already that hadn’t yet counted against their cap (signing bonus hit being spread out)
They would have $100m dead cap hit from trading him

He will move up to top 10ish by then. Other QBs will be getting paid in the meantime as well. Its a very good deal.

That's not what I read, but I didn't look into that seriously because this entire premise was obviously not true lol

Trading a player who had a huge signing bonus would result in a dead cap hit on the team who traded him away. Signing bonus cap hit gets spread out over the contract length up to 5 years max. In Trevor Lawrence’s case, he’s only 1 year into his deal so if the Jags traded him, they’d immediately have a dead cap hit for the remaining 4 years his signing bonus would have been spread out over.
If the player didn’t have much of a signing bonus and his pay was almost all annual salary, then the team acquiring him will take the cap hit on any future salary they will be paying him.

I didn’t go back and look, but I think a lot of Lawrence’s money is similar to the Daniel Jones deal as in it’s all “fake money” until the year he earns it. Ie they can trade him and not take a huge dead money hit.
But I’m recalling that off memory

Similar to Daniel Jones, but on a larger scale. The Jones contract was for 4 years, but in reality it was only a 2-yr deal because the Giants could get out of it with minimal cap hit after two years.
Trevor’s contract is a little more complex since he signed a 5-year extension only three years into his rookie contract, so technically the five year extension kicks in after this upcoming 2025 season.
However, the Jags can get out of it after 2028. So, they are only on the hook for 3 of the 5 years. Also, his signing bonus was only $37.5M. So, that isn’t a huge cap hit if they choose to trade him at any point.

Why would the Jags give up their franchise QB?..
If he wants out of Jacksonville, they would probably entertain offers

The Steelers can have Derek Carr.
