This morning we had a meeting in the conference room. I politely demanded that we sing the national anthem before we began and everyone in the room, revealing themselves to be communists, looked at me funny!
Is this before or after you fought your coworker for a rebound?

Actually, he is wrong. It has been a tradition in the NBA and other sports for decades. Tradition and what the fans like is a good reason for doing it. Also, the NBA came out and said it requires all teams to play the national anthem, so he has to deal with it or quit and go work at a place where they don't play the national anthem.

So this is unique to sporting events?

That guy is a legit communist retard

we could also ask why the NBA wants to force every team to play it. That’s much more communistic as a top down mandate, instead of something a proprietor such as Cuban does with his business
Sure, that's a fair question.
My point still stands that, in this case, the Mavs are the ones making a change. Assuming they haven't been under a rock, they know it's something people feel strongly about. If all they have to back it up with is "Why play it to begin with?" or "Why do you care?" then people are going to assume their reasoning is more divisive and they just don't want to say it.

I don't care if they play the anthem or not, but I find it comical that people think an athletes job is remotely similar to their 9-5.

Do you sing the national anthem before or after you get mugged?
What about before or after your wife’s BF has sex with her?
Or before or after he gifts you with a Nintendo switch?

I’m confused
Did the people who say they didn’t want the anthem then if people were going to kneel also now want it back?
When the whole thing was going on there was a huge “if they are gonna disrespect the anthem then don’t play the anthem at all. It’s dumb we do it before every sports game as it is. It wasn’t even a thing until a few decades ago, take away their platform” push on this board. It was a very popular opinion on this board

I am not suggesting your coach was not patriotic or did not love his country because he thought it was boring to play the song. All I am saying is that the Mavs/Mark Cuban's decision to not play the anthem was politically driven and a metaphorical molotov to a very divided country. I'd be interested to see the ratings of their game last night compared to all the ones prior to this situation.
Did not know that about the ? at the end of the anthem. Cool fun fact. For what it's worth, my interpretation is that the song ends with him asking if there was still a free country that the flag represented. Not if the country was upholding the ideals and beliefs it stood for. Ironically, now is when that question is needed to be asked the most.

I believe at the time I said its stupid, but employers can still "fire people", but given the market of people capable of playing in the NBA it would be dumb to think they didn't have a massive amount of clout.
It's also funny all the people saying they were different when they protested are saying now it's similar to a regular job. It's almost like people cherry pick arguments to fit that specific situation.

Yea but I don’t see anyone in there saying no anthem in here saying we shouldn’t stop the anthem
Even pride says they shouldn’t stop the anthem
quote:
This is so simple. Play the anthem with the players in the locker room. It’s so simple, it’s amazing they haven’t done this
shite most of the people who said “then don’t have it” in that thread haven’t really commented here?

Pro athletes HATE AMERICA. So time for AMERICANS to hate back and stop watching and spending a single cent on anything to do with Pro Sports AND Their sponsors. Show the greedy SOBs who controls their wallets and force them all into bankruptcy.

very few local broadcasts of NBA games show the National Anthem being played, and no national broadcasts do so until the playoffs
