didn't say he sucked. I'm saying they never won anything with him and they weren't close to winning anything with him.

Because the Lions suck. He's not going to carry a team like a Rodgers or Manning, but he'll finally have a good team around him. No more excuses.

Couldn’t it be that he was in a poorly run organization and had bad teammates for a decade?

Probably, that's not my point though.

Do they have any picks left this year? A second I guess and some 6s?

They need to hire some minority coaches. Hopefully they can get hired elsewhere to give them picks

What is the cal hit to the Rams?

I think technically, they save a few million.

Overthecap has the Rams saving 12 million+ but he was guaranteed for 27.5 mil in salary for next year but 6.8*3 + 1.8 mil in signing bonuses that should accelerate to this year.

It looks like 5.3 million saved for the Rams in my math.

1) Don’t try to compare this deal for what Watson gets. People are ignoring that one of the firsts and likely the rest of the picks were paying Detroit to take Goff’s contract off their hands. Think of it like Houston’s Osweiller trade to the Browns.

Thus, unless Houston is taking a massive risky contract back in a Watson trade it’s still likely 2-3 firsts and maybe a player.

2) Rams save $12 million in cap from Goffs original cap hit for next year but then add a $20 mill cap hit on top for Stafford.

They net lost $8 mill in cap space for the upcoming season and without picks in the draft are going to have to improve any other weak spots and depth with bargain bin shopping.

Texans are getting four first rounders at a minimum or an equivalent. Hang up the phone otherwise on that weak shite.

Agreed. They didn’t get two firsts and Goff for just Stafford. Some of that came as a result of them taking on Goff’s contract.

I wonder if Detroit is going to try and trade Goff before the draft. He obviously isn't the long term answer there.

He’s the placeholder. They’ll be shitty for the next two seasons anyways, but if they hit on picks this year and next, they’ll be in prime playoff contention in 2023. But it’s the Lions so they’ll probably win like 60 games total in the 2020s.

I saw a reporter on Twitter say...

Between this trade and the 2016 Titans-Ram trade, Goff has cost the Rams 4 1sts, 2 2nds, 3 3rds, and a huge contract extension

That might be a fair trade all around. This gives the Rams a few years of legit Super Bowl shots and it gives the Lions a chance to build up talent. Win for both.

I doubt it. Jets would be stupid to do that given they have other significant holes.

Again, Detroit got a great deal, but its 2 likely bottom 8 1st round picks and a low 3rd with taking on an extremely bad contract with huge risk. They lose $43.5 Million in cap space the next two years for Goff who might be okay or could be awful without a ton of talent around him like he had in LA.

Houston can think they are getting 4 firsts, but likely not, especially if 1 or 2 are either in or expected to be in the top 10.

Good for Stafford. Spent all those years in Detroit and never complained once then you have Watson crying after a couple of years in Houston.

Got to love it.

Goff's contract is easy to get out of after '22. Coach with a 6 year contract can flush two years with no problem even if Goff is atrocious. Worst case scenario is they have their high picks and another later 1st for two years. Seeing as they already weren't going to win shite with Stafford the risk is like going 4-12 instead of 6-10.
