Because I was brought up with all those disadvantages you claim white people not to face. I didn't have affirmative action on my side. I know no white privilege. GFY for trying to claim otherwise. It's quite offensive and racist for you to do so honestly. You don't get to tell me what's insulting to me just like I don't get to tell you what you should be offended over. frick off black supremacist

i bet, when he's done coaching and doesn't have to recruit black bball players to come to spurs, we wont hear much of a peep from him ever about his white guilt.

I have never understood protesting the national anthem. If you don't like America, move. There's plenty of land to buy up in Canada. Yes, our president is an idiot but that doesn't make it right to disgrace our flag, the military and our freedom.

Well, because it's uncomfortable and there has to be an uncomfortable element in the discourse for anything to change. Whether it's the LGBT movement or women's suffrage, it doesn't matter. People have to be made to feel uncomfortable, and especially white people, because we're comfortable. We still have no clue of what being born white means...It's hard to sit down and decide, yes, it's like you are at the 50-meter mark in a 100-meter dash. You've got that kind of a lead. Yes, because you were born white, you have advantages that are systemically, culturally, psychologically, there, and they have been built up and cemented for hundreds of years. but many people can't look at it. It's too difficult... People want to hold their position. They want the status quo. People don't want to give that up. And until it is given up, it's not going to be fixed."

I'm a pretty big proponent of white privilege, but Pops makes it sound like something of which you should be ashamed. That's not the way it works.

I don't. I feel bad for taking the time to respond to you, but I don't feel bad for my original post. Thank you for proving my point though. You do not want real rhetoric, you want to make people feel "white guilt", which is why responses are: downvoting and not replying, replying with vague criticism, replying with cultural issues trying to blame them on systematic racism, or just screaming racism. You don't want change, just attention.

The concept of privilege is what losers lean on to justify their failures in life.

I've never known a person of color to work as hard as I do and not succeed in life.

It can be, sure. It's also a real thing. I'm honestly shocked it's even debatable to some people.

I agree it can have a negative connotation or be used as a crutch, but that's not what's its about, at least IMO.

I'm going to take the approach that if somebody can point to tangible acts of racism that has occurred that sets them back in life, I will join them in acknowledging that a person has wronged them.

Vague generalities like "institutional racism" are things that offer nothing we can really comment on or offer solutions to. I don't think there is some ethereal institution imposing a system of racism upon us. I do think racists exist. So call the racists out if they unfairly hamper someone for something as mundane as the pigmentation of their skin, but to say an entire group of people start out ahead in life is ignorant. There are some poor arse white families that would love to hear how good they have it because everything must come so easy to them.

Specific instances of prejudice are what sparks meaningful dialogues and provides instances in which we can right wrongs.

It isn't. You just aren't going to find the people that do on a Louisiana-based message board.

White privilege isn't about having it easy, it's about having it easier. It's not about racism either. It's about the simple fact that being white means you're part of the majority race in this country. That's a privilege, but not one for which you or I need to apologize. It's just nature.
