One-third of Americans in a new poll released this week say they are watching less professional sports due to social justice messaging from players, leagues and teams.
A YouGov-Yahoo News survey found that 34 percent of respondents said they are watching pro sports less frequently due to calls for racial justice from sports figures, with 11 percent saying they now watch more often.

So people stopped watching when millionaire athletes started whining about how oppressed they are because they get paid to play a game? Telling the majority of your fan base that you hate them because of the color of their skin or their political leanings is costing you viewership?
There are multiple reasons why I haven't watched an NBA game in 3 years and don't plan on starting again soon. This is at the top of the list.
You really do hate to see it.

If youre going to constantly shoehorn nuanced social issues that have this country completely split into people's entertainment, you should probably at least have some sort of balance. Instead we've gotten months of "derp we must be better."
A far better solution would be to largely leave it out. A sports broadcast is ill served to have any complex discussion. Imagine someone constantly bringing up politics at a Super Bowl Party. Ultimately, theyre going to make the experience worse for a portion of the people there

This study fails to reflect how COVID shutdowns prevented people who were quarantined in their home from turning on the TV to watch sports

"Watching less" is kind of broad and non-specific. Could mean just watching intermittently instead of investing for the whole game.
But I must say the I don't think anyone likes being lectured and told how to feel. And a lot of these heavy handed social justice infomercials come across that way.
I mute those, I'm still gonna watch what sports I want to watch.

Don't forget the NBA players, led by LeMao, strongly standing up for the Chinese Communist Party against the evil citizens of Hong Kong and their silly "rights."
What matters is BLM. Say their names*

While I hate the politics and social justice grandstanding/lecturing, watching sports without fans kind of sucks and has impacted my decrease in viewership just as much as the SJW nonsense.

I watched about 5 minutes of a Big 10 game and couldn't watch anymore because of this. Playing in empty stadiums was unbelievably stupid.

If Yahoo says 34%, it's more likely 44%.

The longer they continue down this road the more fans will realize sports aren’t important. The athletes had a good racket going until they started making it all about their shite politics

Lebron sucking Chinas balls was the nail in the coffin for the NBA for me, the racial shite was just dirt on the coffin. I watched the least amount of NFL and CFB games since I was 10 probably last year, baseball too. I usually got to 5-10 Braves games a year, I am not sure how many I will go to this year or how much I will watch on TV. I didnt outright quit watching sports (aside from the NBA) but I certainly watch much less of them and it is because of the politicization.

I’ll be honest though. The Ivy League in athletics has absolutely committed suicide.

$2.9T later, any regrets not voting in the GA runoff yet? Can't wait to see what's in store with the federal voting rights act once they bribe Manchin! Lmao

And how many told the truth? You give the answer that makes you look good to the people you are trying to impress. It's like the old anecdote that talked about how something like 40 percent of poll respondents say they watched PBS. In reality, like 11 people watch PBS, but everybody says they do because that's what they think you're supposed to say.
