To piss him off isn't very smart.

Spike Lee is completely irrelevant to the Knicks. If Spike went away forever and the Knicks started winning, do you think there’s a single Knicks fan who would say, “Gee, I really want to buy tickets to the Knicks game but they made Spike use the VIP entrance back in 2020”? If I was the Knicks, I’d tell this huckster to pound sand. There’d be another rich guy or celeb scooping up his “Look at me!” seats in a heartbeat.

the situation is completely laughable, who gives a frick that they are acknowledging that? for once, they are in the right

Are you under the impression that those seats will not be purchased if he stops going or the team loses value if Dolan tells Spike to get f@cked? As the great Bobby Axelrod once said “What’s the point of having f&ck you money if you never say f@ck you?”

Yep. Telling one of your most loyal customers to pound sand over something pretty trivial because another person will buy tickets is definitely a good look.

If what they say in their official statement is correct, then yes they're in the right. Hard to really know who is lying here.

But regardless, as far as official statements go, it wasn't well written at all.

per the Knicks it is in no way all of the sudden. If the Knicks are correct in that he's been asked/told multiple times to use a different entrance and he kept using the employee one,

Spike has been a regular for over 25 years. It is hard for me to believe that he's been doing this all that time without it blowing up and all of a sudden one incident makes it a big deal.

I would think it's far more likely that there was a falling out over something else and all of sudden, the thing the Knicks had let go for years wasn't cool any more. Spike is at a lot of their games, so it's hard to imagine things wouldn't have reached a head before this if it was truly only about the entrance he's using.

The Knicks don't get sniffs from FAs because they're terribly managed and create shitshows out of thin air. When they're trying to turn the page on that by hiring a new President then immediately create another shitshow the same night it is very relevant.
Feuding with Spike himself isn't the issue. It's feuding with him, one of your most beloved former players from the last time they were actually good, Marv Albert, etc. it's not a good sign.

I dislike Spike Lee as much as anybody, but the way the Knicks handled this situation is retarded. Spike Lee is an entitled little bitch, but the Knicks prove that they are a complete clown show again and again.

You know the saying "the customer is always right?"

Most businesses try to generate goodwill with customers, not directly tell them to suck it because you can get more customers.

Unless you're PopCopy.

Irrelevant. You let Spike go to his seat and address the situation with him civilly afterward. It's basic customer relations with VIPs.

Oh ok, so I should take the players’ entrance into Tiger Stadium then and tell security to just deal with it after the game?

How well you think that’s going to go over?

Furthermore, it seems to me that they’ve extended Spike the courtesy of not doing what they (the owner of the team whose home court is MSG) have told him many times. They should’ve tossed his arse out of the arena after they told him the first time and he didn’t listen.

Is Spike Lee an employee of the New York Knicks? No. Then he should not be using the employee entrance, and the fact that they’ve told him multiple times to not use it tells me that they’ve already done quite enough in the customer relations area.

The amount of people on this board who actually support spike’s entitled attitude is shocking

What businesses are you using that do this that aren’t mom and pop shops?

I get told to frick myself everyday by companies the size of the Knicks.

Because it's the Knicks I'm going to assume they didn't address this before the season started and probably just started asking half way through the season.

ETA: What issue would it have been to let him use that entrance the rest of the season, address it during the offseason, and not piss off their most loyal fan.

It's not about Spike. Even if he's 100% in the wrong they should try to de-escalate it, not explain why they're in the right, if they don't want pettiness and shitshow to continue to be their brand.

You haven't ever spent $300k just to get in the building for a single season. Name another company that tells a guaranteed $300k a year customer to frick off over something that could have been easily fixed over the off season.
