So where does the Rooney Rule go from here?

For years it has been a sham, but it was a wink wink sham.
Now that the sham has blown up, what happens next?
If they scrap the rule, the woke mafia is going to go nuts.
If they ignore it and keep on with no changes, the media will go nuts as they continue to report it is a sham.
If they try to put more teeth into it, GMs and owners will continue to ignore it.
This is going to be fun to watch.
And somehow, out of this mess, Sean Payton will be suspended for 6 games. Book it.

Is it legal to force minority head coach hirings? If not, it doesn’t really matter what they do, the owners will skirt it.

Not a sham, a dumb rule. Owners hire the best candidate they can regardless of skin color.

A system that eschews merit only proves the inferiority of those it's trying to promote.

I’m not saying the Rooney rule as it is written now is the answer, but the fact that there were only 8 minority head coaches in NFL history prior to it is pretty nuts

This is what happens when you don’t stand your ground.
Go Woke

Total guess here, but I'd imagine they're going to announce more emphasis on development of minority assistant coaches and executives. They obviously screwed up by making a sham of head coach interviews. Maybe all the focus shouldn't just be on head coaches.

Improved draft picks for minority hires

Some people still think that GMs and owners sit around in a private meeting and say "this guy can bring us a championship but let's not hire him because he's a black coach".

The NFL will start appointing head coaches of their choosing when a vacancy is available.

For the 2nd year in a row the Texans are considering hiring a guy with no coaching experience.

Just don't say you're hiring the best candidate if a guy with no experience is on the cusp of being hired. This lawsuit might be what prevents it.

The fact that people talk about "The League" and "The League Office" as though it is somehow autonomous from the owners as a group means they have done a good job with their "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" scheme.
No way the owners as a group allow anything that ties their hands in hiring more than the rooney rule already does.
Goodell and everyone at the league office works for the owners.

You have to hire a black person at least every other time.

Leftwich is ready to be a HC
Bowles is probably ready to be a HC
Leslie Frazier is probably ready for a second shot at HC
Vance Joseph might be ready for a second shot at HC
I don't know what the heck is going on with Eric Bieniemy
DeMaco Ryans and Aaron Glen are probably not ready to be a HC, but they are close.
Meanwhile, teams were legit considering hiring Bill O'Brien and Dan Quinn.
Now, maybe there is no racism at play. But BOB and Quinn?

I have zero issue with some programs that help players move into the coaching ranks, regardless of color. Like maybe for every assistant coach/coach that was previously an NFL player and making 60k or more, they add 100k to the salary cap?
