How do you know he's going to fail?

Why?

Because he will have an overwhelming talent advantage like he did in college.

Oh wait, no. See Nick Saban Dolphins and Michigan State.

That's right. St. Nick failed in the Big Ten too.

How did he fail at Michigan State? After his first year the program got hammered by the NCAA for violations that happened under the previous regime. Despite that he still finished 13 games over .500 and his last team finished ranked in the top ten.

Or, see Pete Carroll.

How do you know which of these paths Urban will follow?

I think Urban will be a fantastic pro coach. You have to take your bias out of it. No body likes the son of a bitch. Including me. But you can’t deny he’s a damn good coach. And i think college coaches work harder than pro coaches bc of the recruiting and it’s basically a year round job

NFL coaches work hard don’t get me wrong but they can have a lot of off time and still be successful

Also being a good recruiter means you’re finding good players. They don’t all have to be taken in the first rd. He just might have a pretty good eye for who can play and who can’t

No conference championship and no Natty's.

Isn't that the standard these days? Otherwise you are a loser.

Teams are interviewing Joe Brady to be a HC

Urban Mayer is light years better than Joe Brady today.

Fair enough.

1. His offense won't work in the NFL.

2. You can't have total control of personnel in the pros like in college. You just can't recruit who you want.

3. If he treats pro players, grown men like 18-23 yo's, then they will tune him out quicker than shite.

4. First sign of adversity, he's gonna have another "health issue" pop up and he's gonna quit.

Having absolutely zero NFL experience is a major concern. If you look at the few college coaches who were able to make the jump successfully, most of them had a lot of previous NFL experience. For example, Pete Carroll had 15 years of coaching experience in the NFL and Jim Harbaugh was a NFL QB for 14 seasons so they were already familiar with the ins and outs of how a NFL team works. Urban will be coming in completely green and will have to figure it out on his own.

Coaching in the pros is a lot different than college. You guys seem to think it's the same.

He's gonna fail.

Joe Brady has spent years on a pro staff, his time at LSU notwithstanding.

Urban hasn't spent one day on an NFL staff.

Try harder.

His way won't work in the pros.
He doesn’t at all come off like he’s permanently stuck in his college coach mindset.

He seems like a pretty laid back guy in other areas of his life. He can probably adjust his coaching style for the NFL.

You can grab 25 of the best guys a year in college and sort it out. He won't have the room for that in the league. I'm sure he'll go heavy on low character guys and do his Fred Sanford routine once they start fricking up.
