Yes, because I am smart enough to realize that all the things he is accused of doing is; A. blown out of proportion from ESPN and B. I would know that its all edited to look bad so ESPN can get viewers.
Like when ESPN showed Bobby McCray's legal hit on Kurt Warner OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again to prove to America that the Saints had a bounty program, even though it's never been proven and Bobby McCray has never been implicated or punished?

It is still the best show for sports updates simply by default. I just want to catch the days highlights and there is no other show that comes close to SportsCenter. But it gets annoying when they do stuff like this. That and telling us what LeBron is tweeting about every second of the day like I give a frick about his opinion on anything. The show used to be so much better than what it is now. There was an article on this a while back that was spot on..
SBNation, TD, and Twitter have sports news usually before ESPN.
Oh, and for football, you have Football Outsiders, Profootball Talk, Pro Football Focus.

Good for rutgers for firing the guy. Would have continued to have transfers and he sounds like a real piece of shite.

every ESPN broadcaster won't drop this issue until the guy and his athletic director is fired.
They really took up this as a cause the last week and wouldn't let it go or ease up. Everyone and on every show had the "talking points" because the same point kept being repeated.
Even this morning Golic said, I'd have my son play for Bobby Knight in a heartbeat but I'd never let him go near Mike Rice...as if Rice were Sandusky and Knight a saint.
Not saying he shouldn't have been fired but ESPN seemed to act like this was a social cause they had to win.

Now that's crazy. Guess he doesn't want to piss Bobby off.

According to Mike Coburn — a Scarlet Knights guard who was on the team during Rice’s first year — many of the players accepted the head coach’s behavior.
"Looking back at it now, it was extreme," Coburn said when reached by phone yesterday evening. "It wasn’t right what he was doing. But we understood it. He was trying his best. ... Did he go overboard? Yes, he went overboard. But you can’t get a good feel for what went down by seeing highlights on ESPN. No one was scared of coach Rice. We didn’t fear him. We just understood him."
Coburn said a lot of what was depicted on the tape was being taken out of context. He said he and other former players — including Jonathan Mitchell and Mike Kuhn — have returned to Rutgers numerous times since they graduated and were welcomed by Rice.
"No one can get a sense of what went down unless you were there," Coburn said. "And the only people that were there was the team. Do I think what he did was over the top and wrong? Probably. But as players, we weren’t scared. We knew and understood what was going on and mentally tough players could take it. ... I agree it was wrong, but why haven’t they showed the times when Mike Rice was high-fiving and chest-bumping? Why aren’t they showing things like that with the players?"

That's great and all, but yes there are kids transfering so i fail to see hwo getting facts from them makes it less factual.
are mike and mike the end all be all, no but they're not just making things up.

If this doesn't show you the hypocrisy of ESPN, then nothing does.

I know i'm not super hip and in on what's the next thing the board hates, but again, they're not making it up. 5 players transfered, i presume because the coach is an arse.
It fills my morning commute with sports talk, i don't see the issue.

This has been my favorite spin on the story.
Kids transferring :omg:
How many players have transferred from just the LSU basketball team in the past 3 years? I think its even more than 5
Kids transfer schools all the freaking time. Where are the stories from these kids who transferred talking about all the abuse and how awful it was to play for Rice?

quote:Knight's real sin was giving the media such a hard time. Charles Barkley and Michael Irvin proved that you can get away with almost anything if the media likes you. As the saying goes, "you never pick fights with people who buy ink by the barrels".
I guess they should fire bobby knight as well. Knight was not exactly a Boy Scout during his college career. Remember the video of him choking one of his players during practice.

They are really struggling to condone and separate Bob Knight as ESPN employee.
Jay Bilas was stumbling and mumbling on Cowherd and saying...
Bob Knight's situation is total different...and a lot of coaches could get in trouble for yelling and raising their voice and that was just one disgruntled player Neil Reid who tragically passed away and Knight was fired...but he was trying to get the best out of his players. I don't see Rice doing that.
