Is ESPN hypocritical? Definitely...

But after seeing those video clips, it's apparent that Mike Rice has major anger issues. He throws tantrums like a 6 year old child.

It's actually pretty funny if you understand college basketball and what really goes on.

I'll never forget showing up unannounced to do a story on a top tier D2 school (now D1) that employed the full court press defense and fast break offense. It was right before the season. They were running non stop gassers and I actually thought somebody was going to die. And the coaches were encouraging them to do so

If that's verbal abuse, then Nick Saban should have been fired from the Miami Dolphins for making a professional athlete cry at practice.

Physical abuse, meh. He was throwing basketballs and people's legs, and there was one clip of a ball hitting a player in the shoulder, and I will admit that this behavior is not acceptable, but that is what the suspension and $50,000 fine took care of. Not a single player there faced any real physical abuse. They get "physicall abused" way harder by their opponents during the games than what was shown in those videos.

So it's just ESPN's fault? CBS, Yahoo, NBC don't play a huge part?

Exactly, and it's just going to take one time, where he is unable to control himself and assaults a player and and injury occurs, then Rutgers is going to get the shite sued out of them for covering it up and not firing him before this happened.

I know it's easy for everyone to say "dont watch it" or "turn the channel". And yes, you are 100% correct. But here is my problem, as a warm blooded american male I am drawn to sports. I would like to have a network that I could watch that would allow me to be entertained by sports like content. Instead I have to consciously avoid it so I dont break my TV.

I stopped watching ESPN other than live sporting events when they put Bama into the title game. I realize that it is biased of me to say thats when I stopped, but that was when I honestly realized they are nothing more than a propaganda machine that WILL get their way. Again, I am fully for "not watching", but I find it absurd that a man can't watch a network and enjoy sports related content because the people in charge run the network like MTV. frick ESPN, frick the people in charge and frick 99% of the people that work there.

ESPN is the network pushing the story. It will be there big "Outside The Lines" focus during Final Four weekend.

Again, FTR, I am not really all that appalled at what the coach did. You just can't do that nowadays. And he was throwing a ball aimed at players heads, not just the body. And pushing players with anger is far worse than going at a player angrily and yanking him around by his jersey to show him where to go and what to do. Fact is you just can't do that and expect to get away with it anymore. The kids took it well, you have to commend them for that. The assistant didn't and that's where we are with this issue.

FIFY

ESPN is all about shoving their views and opinions down your throat and make you see everything their way.

So don't watch it.

It is still the best show for sports updates simply by default. I just want to catch the days highlights and there is no other show that comes close to SportsCenter. But it gets annoying when they do stuff like this. That and telling us what LeBron is tweeting about every second of the day like I give a frick about his opinion on anything. The show used to be so much better than what it is now. There was an article on this a while back that was spot on..

Did Te'o ever have to suffer any negative consequences for what he did? Was he raked over the coals by anyone other than Deadspin? Or did ESPN work as Tom Condon's PR shill?

I hear this term used a good bit. Is this true because of things like this in the past were never videoed or broadcast publically, or is it because people knew these things happened in the past but just considered it part of life?

I guess I'm asking if 30 years ago, people knew this type of activity was happenening at a college basketball practice, would they demand that a coach be fired?

True. I've heard people on Fox Sports talking about it. ESPN caused all the stations to speak on it, how dare they do something like that. Damn ESPN
