not to start a Kobe thread, but not all great players need the crutch of 2-3 big men to win a title.

and i think Bosh proves you dont need "muscle" to rebound. Or a guy like Pau Gasol for that matter.

I think you are overestimating the Heat's undetermined supporting cast.

they will fill it out adequately. And i think people underestimate how great players can make average or even bad players look good.

just look at some of hte players on the Lakers and Celtics. Especially the Celtics.

they may not win it this year, but there is a decent possibility they could be clicking by playoff time and make a run. but in 2-3 years i think they will have a title.

Probably, I'd rather them start to hate each other and refusing to pass the ball.

People keep saying "who are they gonna get to play _________". They are still going to be filling a roster with NBA quality players.

Guys like Taj Gibson, Dejuan Blair, Serge Ibaka, Jerebko all were pretty good rebounders as rookies. I could see Pittman and Varnado being ok in that regard

Well yeah, but I thought we were talking this year. It's almost an inevitability that they'll win titles once the team is fully built and groomed, but they don't have enough time to win it this year IMO.

And guys like Gasol have length. He's not going to bully anyone, but neither are Drew and LO. Their length affects shots, grabs boards and creates second chance points. Boston on the other hand bullies people with their size. They don't grab as many rebounds and put back as many shots, but they alter shots and clog the lane.

Two entirely different groups of bigs that are incredibly successful. Why? Because it's a "group" of bigs. Teams with mutiple quality post players will give the Heat fits. Sure, once they add some experienced size, they'll dominate. Until then, they'll have to rely on perimeter play, and while the best players in the world are perimeter guys, layups are still easier to make than jumpshots.

Does anyone think there is a possibility Lebron can check some of the Laker big men?

Wade guards Kobe
Miller guards Artest
Lebron/Bosh guard Gasol/Odom/Bynum

The thing is as much as everyone says they can't match up with bigs who in the frick can match up with their slightly smaller line up.

I think Varnado is going to turn into a gamer with this group and be an excellent role player.

There is not a team in the league that would be able to run with

James
Wade
Miller
Varnado
Bosh

on the floor. Everyone on the floor is a rebounder and defender.

what group of bigs did Wade have last time he won??

Shaq and......Anointe Walker and Udonis Haslem?? two stumpy post players(one who is pretty much a Point forward?)

Detroit a few years ago won with Ben Wallace, who was undersized and provided no scoring, and Rasheed Wallace who is one of the most overrated forwards of our generation.

Celtics prove that they can win with a guy like Garnett, who is almost identical to Bosh in body type and game. And a guy like Perkins who is just big. Not to mention he was pretty bad when they won the title. It's not exactly rocket science. Just to get to that level, they already have one piece in Bosh.

same with LAK. You have Gasol, Bynum, who really didnt even contribute in the playoffs, and Lamar Odom.

compared to the Heat now, Bosh is your Gasol. Lebron is your Odom. And you just need one more beefy interior guy or 2 to do the dirty work.

if they gel fast, they can be ready for a run at the end of the year. Not sayin they will win, but no one is going to want to play them. No one. Not even LA.

The Heat are not done signing players yet. Even though they do not have much cap room, quality players will sign with them. They already have talks about them signing Haslem, who is a hustle player that rebounds well and plays solid defense. Lebron and Wade are good rebounders in respect to their positions (SG and SF). Bosh was top ten in rebounds i believe (not sure). As of right now they would not win because the lack of depth and size, but we will have see how they fill out the rest of the roster.

This thread/topic should wait until the beginning of the season for a better analysis. FWIW

They'll still have about $5 mill of cap space after the Mike Miller deal thanks to the sign and trades. I think they should target a center rather than re-signing Haslem.

eta: Nevermind, there aren't any centers worth a shite.
