Im not gonna pretend I know wtf the twisties feel like or how dangerous they can be. People that have competed have said they are dangerous, that's good enough for me to not hold it against someone.
Imagine the internal clock for a QB being "off". Now you're prone to getting hit late or sacked.
now just like a sack or late hit will hurt and potentially cause a career ender (hey alex smith), falling mid air from say an uneven bar (8ft right?) and hitting the ground can too.

initially blaming the pressure of the moment but then changing her story to mental health and the twisties after some backlash.
If you watch her in warmups and in the team comp, she definitely didn’t know what she was doing. What you want to blame that on is up to you, but gymnastics is basically all muscle memory and she wasn’t able to do the vault she had planned. You could tell as soon as she was in the air she was lost, which is pretty damn dangerous when you do elements 99% of other gymnasts can’t even attempt.

You can be one of the top performers at your profession and then one day completely lose the thread. It happens to surgeons more than y'all would be comfortable knowing. Would you prefer they just "get on with it" and "just handle the pressure"?
Honestly, the last part is the problem- it isn't the pressure of the spotlight or competition. It is the pressure of knowing something is suddenly "off" and you can't solve why because of the time constraints of the competition, since the more you think about what is going wrong, the less confident you get. In a lot of athletic competition, it is an embarrassing moment; in gymnastics, it can cost you your life or change it greatly.
If you all got to see her severely injure herself or possible kill herself, would y'all have enjoyed watching the Olympics more? Hell, y'all would have just ragged on her for not getting the gold as you popped another beer while sitting in the recliner.

If she’s doing good now, good for her. What went down at the Olympics sucked, but why not pull for her?

Because the entire mental health industry in this country has about as much credibility as dowsing to find water.

Guessing you've never lost a fellow soldier/Marine to undiagnosed mental health issues/undiagnosed PTSD?
B/c I have. So frick you and frick your views on mental health.
I've struggled w/anxiety for years and I have had a wonderful therapist whom I've seen on a need-to basis for the last 7 years and she has helped me immensely w/o any medications. And my lovely aunt is still a practicing psychiatrist at 82 years old.
Attitudes like yours is why the mental health crisis in this country has reached the level that it has.

You mean herself
She wore goat logo bedazzled gear to proclaim herself the goat
No one else did that
She did that
She was proclaimed the goat by everyone - I don't think she did it herself before anyone else did. My guess is that her agent encouraged her to latch onto it for marketing / branding stuff because it means more money. She went professional in gymnastics before NIL, so she was never able to attend college. She chose the money angle and I'm sure those around her wanted to maximize that and encouraged her accordingly.

Biles is neither a coward or a traitor. The fact some of y’all can’t discern the difference speaks more about you than it does them.

College gymnastics/nationals isn’t the Olympics.

Rather than “being weak”, the fact that she wasn’t able to do it in that specific moment suggests to me she was going through some kind of mental issue.
Or it suggests she couldn’t handle the biggest stage there is and she quit.
And in turn she was lauded for her “bravery”
GTFO LOL

Now we have to blame her agent for making her wear GOAT gear.
Anything but making her take any responsibility.

You’re an idiot and have made sports your dominant personality trait, but you went to Bama too.

quote:She has 7 Olympic medals, with 4 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze. And in 2016 she had 5 of them, 4 gold and a bronze. The 7 medals are tied for the most in US history.
College gymnastics/nationals isn’t the Olympics.
In addition she has 25 medals in the world championships, with 19 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze. She has more total medals than any other man (23) or woman (16) in history, and more gold medals in any other man (12) or woman (9) in history.
So yeah, nationals and college championships aren’t the same as world/Olympic championships. But that’s irrelevant since she was competing and winning golds in world championships since she was 16. By the time she was 18, she had already had 10 golds in the world championships, 3/3 in the all around and floor exercise.

You’re forgetting the part about her explicitly calling attention to herself on multiple occasions.
Yep. Declared herself the GOAT (adorning her outfit with pictures of goats) and then flopped on the world's biggest stage. It was awesome and a well deserved humbling.

What a shame she only has 7 Olympic medals and 25 World Championship medals to fall back on. Clearly can’t handle the biggest stage.

Also, who was trying to rag on this girl? I just read Dawg’s post about her accomplishments and it was shocking. She’s done a TON in this gymnastic universe and I had no clue.
And I watch the shite out of the Olympics.
I feel like the media handled this whole thing poorly. I remember getting her brand slammed down my throat. I blinked and I was being told she’s a hero for quitting hours before the Olympics.
My natural reaction was “what the frick.”

And then she couldn’t compete when the pressure got to big.
And was lauded for her bravery.

I get your point about the media slamming something down your throat.
But I don't think it's fair to hold that against her. It probably should have been, "man, this sucks" It's awful she's going thru this and let's hope she gets better soon.
I've tried to do a better job (although I don't always) of just making my own opinion about it and not let what the media says impact how I feel.

quote:It wasn’t any bigger in 2022 Olympics, where she still one an individual bronze and team silver, than in 2016 when she won 3 individual golds, a team gold, and individual bronze (same event she won bronze in the 2016 Olympics).
And then she couldn’t compete when the pressure got to big.

SO BRAVE
She could have retired after 2016 Olympics, and still have the most world champs hip golds and medals, along with 5 Olympics medals and 4 golds.
Female typically peak in their teens, as early as 16, which is why there were accusations that China was faking ages of their gymnasts and they were much younger than 16.
So Simone’s two Olympic performances were when she was 19 and 23, and at in 2020 at 23 she was past the prime, yet you’re criticizing her for having an issue that is similar to other sports (like the yips), just far more dangerous and far more physical issues that could play a role (flipping and spinning could be thrown off quite easily for many reasons).
Your criticisms don’t really make any sense.
