Just started a hire Jerry Sloan thread on the rant. Should be fun.

So I've read bits and pieces of this story all day... How much does Williams have to do with it?

Dunno, I'm assuming its one of those things that is gonna be a hell of a lot clearer when the players start twittering.

Well I've read he had a tendency to change the plays Sloan would call in and that the two have butted heads

Two sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Sloan reacted angrily during the home loss when guard Deron Williams called a play on the floor that was different from the one Sloan called from the sideline.
That led to an emotional dispute at halftime, sources said, which was followed by Sloan's closed-door meeting with O'Connor after the game.

Players have so much leverage in today's NBA.

Like I said before, it's not so much that Coach Sloan had an argument with DWill. He has butted heads with MANY of his players over the years (look up his feud with Reggie Theus back in Chicago). This is about him not wanting to do it anymore or not having the energy to do it anymore. The man is 68 years old now and has seen many of his good friends and mentors, and his wife Bobbye, pass away in the last few years. He's entitled to be tired.

I saw that. I almost put a huge picture of the Race Card but meh. People throwing race into every single conversation is really starting to piss me off.

I don't think DWill had as much to do with it as the national media is portraying. The national media loves a good drama, after all. In fact, team owner Greg Miller emphasized today that the coach has the ultimate authority on the team, not the players
Well of course the owner is going to say that. He's not going to say the players run the team, lol.
quote:
If players run the team, you get mayhem - and you can't have mayhem and have a successful small market franchise
Players run teams across all sports and coaches get fired all the time to appease players, and it isn't always unsuccessful, right or wrong.
I just think it is absolutely stunning. There really was never any talk of Dwill in this manner at all. And now the longest tenured coach in all of major sports in America leaves midseason right after signing an extension and by just about every account I've read, DWill's refusal to buy into what Sloan was teaching is one of the main reasons.
And Adande(a very reputable reporter) reported sources saying to him that the rest of the team was 100% behind Sloan, it was only DWill that was not.
It's just pretty damning to Dwill, IMO.

According to Wojnarowski, a lot.

I started laughing when he typed it... not even worth responding to it

Exactly. I swear, they just say that on message boards because no one knows who they are.

Ah the Rant... Gotta love it

Some things to consider: when it comes to the national sports media and the Utah Jazz, the national media is not often correct. The Jazz run one of the most tight-lipped organizations in professional sports. Most of the rumors and speculation concerning the Jazz regarding anything come from "sources" that are not inside the Jazz organization. Also, while I don't doubt that Williams played something of a factor in all of this, I think it was more of a case of a guy realizing that he was tired of arguing with any of his players, not just Williams. Sloan said he has been thinking about this for days now. And I think his locker room dispute with DWill last night (and like I said, Sloan is no stranger to disputes with his players) made him think once and for all "you know what? I've been doing this for a long time. I don't need to do this any more".

All I'm saying is reputable sources are reporting that people inside the Jazz organization are telling them these things.
Sources, even reputable ones, aren't always correct. But when multiple guys are saying a lot of the same things, it's tough to just discount it.
