Here is a tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski who is a NBA columinst for Y sports.

Showdown between Sloan and Williams became so heated Wednesday, at least two Jazz players feared they could come to blows. Never escalated.

Damn, I was hoping he had resigned because he still hated that the Jazz had chosen to wear N.O. Jazz throwbacks this season.

There's a long history of players getting NBA coaches fired

There is no way Williams has the stroke to get Sloan fired. Sloan just had enough of his shite and quit.

Im not saying he went to management and said, "fire him."

It seems like it was a "me or him" type of situation and they chose the franchise player. Which would be the case with just about every franchise.

should never be the case with Sloan and the jazz, or spurs and Pop, regardless of the player.

This isn't what happened. They just signed Sloan to a contract. He walked away, after about 50 years in the game he probably just had enough of dealing with today's NBA whinny bitches.

I don't think DWill had as much to do with it as the national media is portraying. The national media loves a good drama, after all. In fact, team owner Greg Miller emphasized today that the coach has the ultimate authority on the team, not the players. If players run the team, you get mayhem - and you can't have mayhem and have a successful small market franchise.

Coach Sloan has had run-ins and confrontations with many of his players in the past, including Stockton and Malone. I just think he decided that he didn't have the energy for it any more and that it was time. Better to come to that realization in the middle of the season and be sure about it, than do it in the offseason and wonder if it was the right thing to do, IMO.

Either way, its a sad day for Jazz fans. I have been stunned all day. Its an end of an era, and I feel like part of me went with it.

ETA: and quite honestly, IF DWill had something to do with this, I would want him gone as well. That's not how the Jazz is run, nor will it ever be.
