You're talking about a program that within the last couple decades has produced TJ Ford, Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Boobie Gibson, DJ Augustin, Tristan Thompson and Myles Turner. Not to mention been to a couple Elite 8s and a final 4 in that same timeframe and a program that pretty regularly appeared in the tourney.

And outside of that team with TJ Ford, they never made a Final 4. Kind of says a lot about Barnes' ability to get the most of his team when he was at Texas.

Smart gets one more year, then the heat is on.

The heat is building, but half of that is entitled UT fans. Shaka has recruited well and made the tourney two of three years.

That isn't much of a difference from the tail end of Barnes's term. That's why the heat is building. Shaka needs to show he can convert talent to results and start an upswing.

Edit: Andrew Jones's leukemia was a really tragic thing and hurt their 17-18 season a lot. That's one reason the heat is not higher.

The guy was clearly a one hit wonder. Not sure how so many have been duped.

I’m not saying he’s a terrible coach, but his performance at VCU was vastly overhyped based on one run in a year where they arguably shouldn’t have even made the tournament.

Has Texas traditionally been a top tier basketball program in its history?

no, but they have a worse complex than aggie. they think because they have so much $$$ that they should be good at everything.

The problem with Texas athletics, is they have a bunch of senile old fart big $ boosters. UT always believes its athletic program is above everyone else. As far as Aggie, they hit a homerun joining the SEC.

Fans love exaggerating things. Look at the money they, and A&M, are making. As long as they keep printing money, they don't care that much. And people keep donating

His teams can’t play full court press and be physical with the new rules. That is what made him successful at VCU was recruiting a bunch of athletes to play a full court press. If his teams played that way under the new rules they would be in foul trouble 5 minutes into the game.

Or rather he's in a profession with unrealistic expectations for every coach...considering what we have seen the last 10 years...

You can have one recruiting class with all freshman and make the Final Four...

And then come back with another group of all freshman and make the Final Four.

Fans know instant results can be done and are spoiled by seeing other teams go to Final Fours with all freshman.

There's no waiting period, no building the program, no waiting until they're all juniors like in football.
