I can't paint like Van Gogh either. Does that make Van Gogh an athlete and painting a sport?

The answer to your question is Sergey Bubka. 16 year run of COMPLETE. dominance, while breaking world records like 40 different times. Still holds world record today.

If we're talking about owning your sport, Bubka is a great choice but he only got one Olympic gold. Shaun White with a gold in Sochi would be up there.

How about Kim Rhode in shooting? Gold as a 17-year old and a 33-year old. 5-time medalist, 3 golds, and could add to the total.

Alexander Karelin won 3 straight golds in Greco Roman wrestling and didn't lose a fight for 13 years and went 6 years without giving up a single point.

And of course, you have Phelps.

And before someone says it fighting should not be judge, it should be last man standing wins

But it's not last man standing and it is judged, so is it not a sport?

Anything that requires judges to score you isn't a sport. For example, figure skating is not a sport, it is more like athletic art or something.

That is my stance too. I call them athletic competitions, but not "sports"
That said, he is a tremendous athlete that pushes the envelope and drives his craft further and further.

Everyone needs to get Ping Pong out of this thread. That shite is 100% a sport.

The hand-eye coordination, quickness, and agility to be a professional ping ponger is insane.

It is also man on man. It is pure competition.

Damn I love me some ping pong
