Have you ever visited UH's campus?

If you win football games and become a national power, i dont think it would make that much of a difference what Houston's campus looks like.

It's basically a JUCO style, commuter campus sitting in the middle of one of the more unpleasant neighborhoods inside the 610 loop. They are trying to pump more money into the football program, but I just can't see them outrecruiting UT, LSU, or even TAMU in Houston.

ETA: I'm not sure how to debate your "if they were to become a national powerhouse they wouldn't have a problem recruiting.".

Aside from the commuter aspect, the campus itself isn't really bad.

It basically looks like someone dropped McNeese onto a Houston backdrop. Most of the buildings/signs on campus need serious upgrades, and the gigantic parking lots littering the campus don't help the ambience.

There are plenty of new buildings on campus. It's very green. Not bad looking at all. And I'm pretty neutral toward the school aside from supporting the hometown team.

Houston's high water mark was 30 years ago. They won the SWC three out of the first five years they were in it. They won it again in the mid 80s and have had a Heisman Trophy winner and an Outland Trophy winner. Fast forward to now and they are in the fourth largest city in the country, but in a mediocre conference with mediocre fan support.

pittsburg has a decent amount of potential. and they're on the right track. they've got a good coach and a solid basae of instate talent.

However, a 4th school in Florida make it hard for me to believe that their potential isn't already reached. I think the best they can hope for is a 9-3, 10-2. I seriously doubt they will ever contend for the NC like VT or FSU or Oregon.

they had it a few years ago...they were ranked like 2 in the nation at one point...they get lots of JUCO players. It wouldn't surprise me if they caught FSU at some point...Tampa is a nicer place than Tally

louisiana only has enough talent for one major school.

that's not true at all

however, another power in Louisiana will never be allowed to grow between the overwhelming majority of LSU fans and the temptation of in-state players who don't go to LSU to bolt for out-of-state established programs in lieu of up-and-comers in state.

ACTUALLY, Louisiana Tech is the sleeping giant in this state. *cue laughter from most fools on here* LSU's been propped up insanely by the state government throughout their history, which is the ONLY reason they're the only "major" program. There's a ridiculous amount of talent in this state, and now that we have a decent administration in charge in Ruston, things are radically changing and we're even poaching SEC recruits here and there. We just spent $76 million in the past couple of years on various athletics improvements and are putting up a $20 million stadium enhancement and athletic facility... with a ton more coming as soon as we bulldoze a few old buildings to make room. It's not taking very long to raise any of this money either. LaTech has the HIGHEST rate of alumni giving out of the entire state's public universities.

I know you guys on here will yuck it up to this, but it's true, and we at least actually have FANS in this state that are not supporters of LSU, like the other 3 FBS schools. We've played LSU THREE times since World War II, two of those times were some of the worst Tech teams ever versus the two best Tiger teams. Last year, we walked into Tiger Stadium with pretty much NO starters and a bunch of freshmen in their first game, with an idiot coach that had the worst offensive scheming ever, and STILL had to gift-wrap that damn win to you guys toward the end of the game. Sure, you still won at the end of the day, but I'm just sayin', we do have potential, so there is room in this state for 2 "major" programs. We're certainly not there yet, but it's our goal in the long run.

I'm not tryin' to hate with this post either, at least not on LSU. I'm just speakin' up for my Bulldogs! (The first team in Div 1 to be named the Bulldogs, as a random fact)

LSU is fully capable of being a national recruiting powerhouse.. it just doesn't have to be because there's so much good Louisiana talent for it to monopolize. Another major school wouldn't hurt it.

This. I honestly think LaTech could rise to being a major national program and it wouldn't push LSU down at all, but just create an interesting rivalry. Louisiana is the freaking CAPITAL of football, for crying out loud, so it's ridiculous to think there can't be TWO major teams in this state. Tech is already easily #2, so maybe it's only a matter of time... ;)
