I honestly think LaTech could rise to being a major national program and it wouldn't push LSU down at all, but just create an interesting rivalry.

I don't know if Tech could do it, honestly. It would take a BCS conference being desperate enough to take them. As it is, there's no valid reason for a 4* Louisiana recruit to choose La Tech over LSU or even Alabama or Texas.. hell, TAMU... until there's a school in Louisiana that has that kind of attraction, LSU will remain the only powerhouse in the state.

No I'm not on the LSU payroll, haha. You're right that I'm no supporter of LSU though... BUT this is an LSU website, so I'm not here to pick on them. I really just like to jokingly pick mainly when our teams play each other, but I give "hendersons hands" and a couple other ULM/ULL guys on here a hard time here since they hate on my Dawgs.

So perhaps it's the alumni association?

Negative. Oh by the way... speaking of not hating ULL, I saw you guys are playin' OK State at home this year, which I SOOOOO wanted to check out, just in case you guys beat them, 'cause my friends in Lafayette will be there and it could be fun. Unfortunately, Tech has a game that weekend at home, BUT since that's a Friday game you guys have, maybe I will make it.

so it's ridiculous to think there can't be TWO major teams in this state.

LA is a small, poor state

The Cajuns will never be a powerhouse, but we could be a team that has winning seasons and goes to bowl games. That's what we want.

Small as in geographically? I thought we were like 25th in total population which puts us about average.

we produce some great top-tier talent, but we don't produce a lot of depth

and LA mainly produces 1 of 2 types of player...the 5-11, 190 lb athlete, and the 6-3, 300 lb linemen

you realize only 4 of the top 10 recruits in the state (per rivals) fit those profiles, right?

louisiana only has enough talent for one major school.

Oddly enough we've been supplying the rest of the country's major schools with talent for years on top of LSU

Yeah I agree. It's unrealistic to think that all of our players would stay in state, but if they did it would be enough for LSU +1

LSU heavily relies on SETX for recruits, among other states to the east of us (none as individually represented as TX)

Hmmm.. I still think your employment is tied to LSU, directly or indirectly. You've posted too many times about it on BB&B. Seems wrong to bite the hand that feeds you. (no pun intended)

Actually, the majority of Tech's class this year came from Texas as well.

The answer of a true sleeping giant is Texas A&M. Rich alumni, excellent academics, and in a talent-rich state. Getting out from under Texas by joining the SEC would be the best thing for them. And really not good for LSU, btw.

SMU. They have tons of rich boosters who will contribute more and more money to enhancing facilities as long as June Jones is the coach and keeps the team on the rise. Them winning 8 games last year alone was unbelievable.
