Washington needs to pay him. Sooner you get a deal done, the cheaper it will be tomorrow.
Simple decision.

The choice was to not trade for him because you'll have to immediately give him an overpaid contract.
I’m talking about after they traded for him. At that point they didn’t have a choice but to sign and pay him.
Otherwise they burned a 2nd round pick for 1 season because he wouldn’t have stuck around.

quote:Correct. Over that time did he elevate them or keep DCs up at night to the extent the actual Top 5 does?
He’s played his whole career with the likes of Sam Howell, Taylor Heineken, and the ghost of Alex Smith
Thing is his raw (and meh for a #1) production was arguably helped by Washington having to throw being down so much over the years. The splits on McLaurin trailing vs leading/tied have to be drastic
Team passing yards
24 - 3665
23 - 3725
22 - 3472
21 - 3441
20 - 3465
McLaurin targets
24 - 117
23 - 132
22 - 120
21 - 130
20 - 134
He’s nowhere near a Top 5 caliber player and his TD total from last year was arguably driven more by defenses not knowing what to do with Daniels and his efficiency. It makes zero sense for Washington to pay Top 5 money until he actually produces Top 5 seasons

You have daniels on a rookie deal
No reason not to pay McLaurin especially when you don’t have a replacement on roster

Spotrac has him as a Void or UFA after this season? Am I reading this wrong?

Yep, just front load the money while you have the room.
Or just trust Luke Mccaffrey and KJ Osborn

I’ve never been an NFL contract expert but is he not on the final year of a three year deal?
Posted on 7/31/25 at 7:30 pm to Pedro
That would put the Bills over the top.

Let him seek a trade and see if anyone else is willing to pay $33M. If they aren’t, find a number you can live with. If they are, trade or sign him to a front loaded contract.
I get that the NFL is a business, by McLaurin has wasted a lot of his prime on that team and they should be willing to sweeten the pot a little for him. Not too much, but a little.
TLDR - he doesn’t deserve and shouldn’t expect top 5 money, but both parties probably need to come closer to the middle.

DK making $33M is an indictment. Never has a WR been more overrated simply because he looks the part. It’s kind of an outlier because McLaurin is absolutely a better player than DK but it’s not the Commanders’ fault that some dumbass team gave DK that contract. McLaurin having his best season of his career the year he pairs up with JD, correlation or causation? Tough spot for the Commanders.

What a bitch. Jayden is one of the best young QBs in the league and they’re a legit contender. Worry about winning a championship, not your silly contract.

What is significantly more?
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for him to get more.

Said everybody about Burrow and now they barely have an OL
TM is a tough one. Not top 5 player but consistently been really good with bad offenses

I do. They have almost identical career numbers and DK is 2 years younger. You can argue DK had a better QB throwing to him for most of his career but Seattle also had better weapons and options next to him than Terry did so less touches. Elite QBs can make good WRs look great,
