They are both great players. A- rod is better, but Jeter is still great.

and also has had a better fielding percentage every year.

A-Rod had to switch positions cause Jeter wouldn't budge from his spot, even though A-Rod was clearly the better defensive S.S

How did this turn into an ARod vs Jeter debate?

When someone called Jeter overrated which I find completely false.

the allure of a 10+ page thread. It always mutates into something that doesn't even resemble the thread intent

both of these stats are completely inconsequential to this argument

How? He said Jeter is "overrated" because people debate who means more to the team and he thinks that alone makes him "overrated".

My fault. I called Jeter overrated because of the praise he receives for being a clutch player. I apologized in advance. I will not chase the argument any further and neither should anyone else.

It was a point about how "clutch hitter" is often used as a way to prop up player's credentials. If a guy isn't as good as a hitter, you can always say, "Yeah, but he's much better in the clutch."

Jeter has always been a great hitter for a shortstop (his 1999 season was crazy) but as long as people continue to think that he is even a good defensive SS (let alone a gold glover) he will be somewhat overrated.

How over the course of their careers does Jeter have a better average than A-Rod, but is not better in any part of hitting?

you really need to do a lot of research into baseball statistics before you join an argument like this.

nobody said that. You said Jeter was better because he has a higher avg. which is wrong.

No, we don't have to think he sucks in order to think of him as overrated

I don't know what kind of free time you have but if you can you should read some of Bill James' work. His or any other counterintuitive writing will open your eyes to the fallacies of most accepted baseball stats. BA is of course one of them.

Ok, serious question where would you rate him amongst current Shortstops?
