Russell Wilson has made it official.

In a social-media video posted on Wednesday, Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL and confirmed that he will be working for CBS, on The NFL Today.

A third-round pick in 2012, Wilson won the starting job as a rookie, beating out free-agent arrival Matt Flynn.

Wilson made it to the Pro Bowl nine times in 10 seasons with the Seahawks. Traded to the Broncos in 2022, he had two seasons in Denver, one in Pittsburgh, and one with the Giants.

In all seriousness, I think he's going to be pretty good on TV

As a Niner fan, dude tortured us for so long, but I always respected his game. Hope he's remembered for more than just the past few years.

Did he play himself out of the HOF with his post Seahawk years?

I think he was HOF if he retired as a Seahawk

Somehow ole Russ still had enough to abuse the Cowboys last season.

73% Completion Rate
450 Yards passing
3 Touchdowns
123.0 Passer rating

I was going to ask this exact same question. If Wilson retires just off his Seahawk time it feels like he probably gets into the HOF pretty easily, but he got so bad, so fast that it feels like it’s been forgotten just how good he was those first 10 years. I know Pro Bowls aren’t the end-all-be-all (and some can be a bit fraudulent when it comes to QBs), but he made 9 in his first 10 years. That’s not exactly nothing.

Matt Stafford made 1 Pro Bowl in his first 14 years and if you compare Wilson’s number to Stafford’s over those first 10 years Wilson’s stats were better, but it feels like Stafford is going to be remembered now as some great, while people are going think of Wilson like he was Joe Flacco or something.

He has a way better individual CV than Troy Aikman.

Aikman never even made a Second team All-Pro.

Always thought the dude was a cringe factory.

Good player in his prime. Fake and phony as could be.

People might not like him due to personality but the disrespect as a player has to stop!

4th all time in passing yards
16th all time in passing yards
12th all time in passing TDs
5th all time passer rating
10 pro bowls

Lock for the HOF!

So he’s better than Joe Montana because he has more stats? The guy was good as the final piece for a team that had a great D and run game. When they switched to him being the driver the team fell off.

Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas’s last year with the Seahawks was 2017. End of “Legion of Boom”.

2013: 13-3 (Super Bowl)
2014: 12-4
2015: 10-6
2016: 10-5-1
2017: 9-7
2018: 10-6
2019: 11-5
2020: 12-4

Where was the fall off? Because they didn’t win a superbowl again they fell off?

Yes, went from title contenders to just making the playoffs. Using those players leaving is making my point, once he was the engine they were no longer contenders. If you want to say he was a guy who had good regular season records fine, he’s Dak Prescott, that’s a good comp.
