Rivera vs Jeter: who was more important in the Yankees WS titles?

Tough to put a price on the greatest closer of all time. I think you could plug 3-4 other guys in Jeter's spot and they would be the same.

Rivera for sure. His postseason ERA is .70

Rivera. Most years Jeter wasn't even a top 2 player in his own infield

Jeter easily. A closer even one as great as Rivera doesn't have a great impact on a team's win-loss record because the other guys have to do all the work for the first eight innings to get the lead. Also, a team entering the ninth inning with a one-run lead wins approximately 85% of the time and a team with a two or three run lead wins about 95% of the time so the Yankees would have won an overwhelming majority of the games that Rivera ended up closing anyway.

Go through the years whether its Cano Giambi Soriano A-rod Posada or Martinez at times they were all better than Jeter. Of his 16 years Jeter was the 3rd or worse player in the Yankees infield about 9 or 10 years

1996
1B - Martinez/Fielder
2B - Mariano Duncan
3B - Charlie Hayes
SS - Jeter
1998-2000
1B - Martinez
2B - Knoblauch
3B - Brosius
SS - Jeter
2009
1B - Teixeira
2B - Cano
3B - A-Rod
SS - Jeter
Please pick a year where Jeter wasn't a top 2 infielder on those teams. 2009 would be a good argument just from looking at the names, but if you look at Jeter's numbers from that season, he absolutely was. He was 3rd in the MVP voting.

Rivera is the greatest postseason pitcher of all time.
Jeter's postseason numbers aren't nearly as good as people think they are. Actually, he's been awesome in the divisional series, pretty lousy in the ALCS, and above average in the World Series. In 38 career World Series games, he has 9 RBI. Sure, RBI is an overrated stat, but for Mr. Clutch himself, that's a pretty telling stat.
