The former St John’s coach passed away tonight, just five weeks shy of his 100th birthday.

Seemed like a truly great man. Those other Big East coaches revered him

Dude was a living legend
I probably loved his style of tacos as much as his coaching

Hell of a career. Also coached the Nets in the ABA.

As dirty as college basketball was (is), he is one dude who I legit think was clean. I wish he had made it to 100. RIP

His 84-85 team with Chris Mullin, Walter Berry, Bill Wennington, and Mark Jackson was awesome. They probably would've won the title most years if they hadn't hit peak Georgetown (and a crazy underdog story in Villanova).

I have a letter from him from a few years ago. I just started coaching basketball and corresponded with him and he was nice enough to respond with some tips. He is an overlooked legend of the game IMO. Those old Big East coaches did wonders at "city" programs. John Thompson. Ray Meyer at DePaul. Pitino.

It's crazy how much of a power St. John's was, back in the day.

As a 5th grader way back in 1982-83, I was introduced to college basketball by watching St. John's and Lou Carneseca. They are still my favorite team to this day. RIP Lou. You were the man.

The first thing I thought about was his sweaters.
