RIP to an absolute legend. People throw around that term loosely but he was so important to the game in so many facets. He will never be forgotten

You could argue he is one of 4-5 most influential people in the history of professional football. Not only is he probably the most well known TV commentator of all time, but his namesake video game is one of the most popular video games all time. He had not called a game in 20 years and a whole generation of kids STILL know his name.

If there was one non-player you could say was the face of the NFL for two decades it was Madden. For football fans between the ages of 30-50 Madden is the “voice” of the NFL

He lived in the town where I used to live. Used to see him downtown a lot. He was kind of a icon there. Very sad.

wonder if EA will retire his name from their game? They’ll have to do some tribute in the opening for hun at least.

What kind of stupidity is that?

You think honoring the guy is removing his name from his legendary game so he could soon be forgotten?

I mean his name literally made that game. It's fricking Madden.

Go back and watch old games from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and listen to how great the quality of the announcers were compared to today.

AL Michaels was just one of the guys back then, and now, he's the best of the best of the best and it isn't close.

Dick Enberg. Pat Summerall. AL Michaels. Brent Musberger. John Madden. Howard Cosell. Don Meredith. Keith Jackson.

And that's only football.

We need unftered Lucky Strikes and Jim Beam back in the worst way.

Must've been why they did the special on Fox Sunday morning, they knew? I watched it. Well worth a watch.

Madden, Matuszak, Biletnikoff, Upshaw, the Stork, and the Snake..

That's why I've been all RaiderNation since 1976!

Outside of Tom Brady, John Madden May be the most recognizable persona associated with Football in the history of football

They had been advertising that special on Christmas Day for quite some time.

Wow. Just watched his special this past weekend. RIP to one of the GOATs

I walked in my friends house the other day and everyone was watching this, and I asked ‘damn, did he die or something?’

Everyone cursed me out and said no

Oops, sorry coach

RIP

it says he died unexpectedly...

There are certain kinds of people who don't want the attention and their last known days to be about them. Just like Norm. Those are amazing people. I'd put Madden up there too. We'll see what comes out.

Didn't his movie just come out?

All the great ones die during the holidays.

Nothing like being a kid watching a fall broadcast and he’s already talking up the Turduken in mid October.

The sound of the dudes voice takes us all back.
