He was 87

quote:

Long time friend of Haller, Jim Greenan says Haller and Weaver didn’t patch up their differences.

I guess Earl won't be waiting for him at the pearly gates.

For your entertainment. Probably seen by all, but it never gets old

Today, the league would overreact and suspend both of them.

Classic.

Haller to Weaver:

For fricking up World Series? You gonna be in the Hall of Fame for fricking up World Series?

And Earl’s teams indeed lost to the 1969 Mets, to the ‘71 Pirates and blew a 3-1 lead to the ‘79 Pirates. Haller wasn’t totally wrong, either.

He may be the Buffalo Bills’ favorite baseball manager

But at least he did win one in 1970.

That's awesome.

Haller tries to walk away but Earl won't let him. Earl starts walking to the dugout and then turns back around to chew him out again.

Classic.

Classic little man complex; begging to get hit, then crying and accusing the normal-height man of hitting him even when he obviously didn't.

A classic Weaver line was when he asked the ump if he could get tossed for thinking. The ump replied "No". Weaver came back with " Good. I think you are fricking horrible" . Which got him tossed. Not sure who was the best at getting tossed with reason, Weaver or Billy Martin.

Wonder if an Ump today would have the balls to tell Dusty Baker he should be in the HoF for f'ing up a World Series.

I believe this happened in 1980, the season after the Orioles blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series.

I’d go with Lou Pinella.

It’s amazing that a guy like Earl is constantly mentioned among modern (I guess post WW2 or even LCS era) greats, but he only has 1 ring. I know that’s 1 more than hundreds of other managers, but I don’t think that makes him royalty like he seems to be pegged without a second look. Danny Murtaugh was the winning manager in ‘71, and it’s not like his numbers were shabby, but he’s almost never mentioned.

Earl being colorful and having a baseball game series named after him helps.

Tommy LaSorda gets a lot of the same stuff but has more rings than Earl because he won at least one Series in the early 80s before winning again in 1988. And both of them are notable for some utterly profane sound bytes in conjunction with stupid questions.

Ask LaSorda about Dave Kingman’s home runs.

What is my opinion of Kingman’s performance?!?
