Was he the one that was covered in the Battered Bastards of Baseball documentary?

Great watch if nobody has ever seen it.

His book Ball Four about his comeback as a knuckleball pitcher for the Seattle Pilots (in their one and only season) was revolutionary. He also invented Big League Chew. R.I.P.

Kind of sick how baseball ostracized the guy for unveiling all the nasty shite behind baseball back then. Hell, even sports writers were railing on the guy. They got pissed because Bouton called them out for being such shitty people

Shitfrick!

Another connection to my youth gone. I read his book when I was 11 or 12. It's a must-read, IMO.

RIP, Bulldog.

Always wondered how much money he made from it.First year on the market they had $18 million in sales then sold out to Wrigley.Im sure he got residuals.

I never understood why so many baseball people hated him for this book . It was a great book . The last line “ You spend a lifetime holding a baseball in the palm of your hand , and you realize it was the other way around the whole time “
That guy loved baseball !!! RIP , Jim Bouton

After the Braves released him, he caught on with a team in the South Atlantic League. When a reporter asked him why he wanted to play at that level, he responded. "I don't need a reason to play the game I love".
