Drinking isn't all that. I stopped drinking years ago other than the occasional social drink. This is a good thing not a bad thing

Attendance is going to be massively underwhelming given what FIFA has done with prices.

Lots of empty group stage matches, and not all that many people travelling from overseas.

That tracks.

One has to increase their drinking to be able to sit through 2 hours of a ball being kicked back and forth with nothing happening.

Personally, what drives me nuts is that you don't know how much time is left.

Why can't the officials add the time to the clock so we all know.

The secondary market (pricing and quantity) implies otherwise

Hotels in the host cities aren't being booked.

But for hoteliers checking their booking systems, the buzz is more of a murmur.

The industry body says most hotels in World Cup host cities are seeing bookings lower than this time last year, and those who spoke to the BBC said they were underwhelmed so far.

"We were sold this expectation the World Cup would be a big phenomenon, people have been talking about it for years," said Deidre Mathis, who owns the Wanderstay Boutique Hotel in Houston, Texas.

It is currently at 45% capacity for the period of the tournament, Mathis told the BBC, compared with 70% for the same time last year.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association released a report on Monday, highlighting the challenges faced by hotels across the U.S. in the lead up to the international soccer tournament. The report said that, across host cities, hotels have not seen strong bookings and that domestic travelers are outpacing international visitors.

Kansas City had the highest number of hotel owners, roughly 85% to 90%, report below expectations, just trailing behind a typical June or July without any major events. In Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle, nearly 80% of respondents said booking pace was less than expected, with some calling the tournament a "non-event" due to FIFA room releases and weak international fan visits.
