Football Media Day back to Lake Charles
-Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball tournaments all in Lake Charles starting in 2023 for 4 years
-First Right of Refusal goes to McNeese for all 4 tournaments after the 4 year period
-Zero buyout if McNeese leaves for the FBS
-McNeese AD Heath Schroyer will serve as an Advisor to the SLC Commissioner

I want to say this is bullshite to give them all of this, but Lake Chuck is perfectly positioned for all of the tournaments and media days. Still frick McNeese for the bullshite they pulled the last 2 weeks.

Sorry no one is inviting SELA to their tea party.

Hell, word is it was an 8-0 vote to give McNeese the zero buyout. Sounds like Southeastern and the rest of the conference knows who butters their toast...

This worked out well for McNeese and glad they're staying. The AD and President know what their plan is and know they have to get stronger members to join.

SLU leadership, primarily Crain because I think Artigues is doing a great job considering he’s working with his hands tied, is a bunch of dumbasses.

How does McNeese butter any bread? When’s the last time they were actually relevant in anything besides a lucky baseball run last spring?

That will be the most interesting aspect of this. Can Schroyer deliver on his new role with the league and bring in strong members?

If he does that, after brokering this deal for McNeese, he won't be at McNeese long.

They need to get the band back together. Lamar, Central Arkansas, SFA, NW St, Nicholls and SELA was a strong conference.

Beats me. Go ask SLU leadership why they and the rest of the conference felt McNeese was so valuable to the SLC that they threw the world at them. Hell, I even told my wife McNeese could keep stinking at football and it wouldn't matter with everything they just brought to Lake Charles.

The article said the SLC was likely going to fold if McNeese left. No clue where that's coming from or how true it is, but if there is even a hint of truth to it, that says alot about the SLC. Hell, what was announced today says alot about the SLC, regardless of the validity of that statement.

And let's be honest...relevance discussions regarding anyone in the current Southland is laughable. Sam Houston was the only relevant program in ANY sport on a national level.

What strong members are there to bring in? As in lure existing FCS programs from other conferences back into the SLC with the sweetheart deal they just gave McNeese? That's a hard sell.

That's my concern. I don't know who they bring in beyond rounding up Lamar, Central Arkansas, and the rest of the former SLC members (minus Sam Houston). I give this a few years, and if McNeese hasn't somehow bounced to the FBS, the SLC isn't going to be happy with all they gave McNeese.

If this somehow translates to McNeese becoming competitive at a national level in football and making a few tournament appearances in the other sports, maybe that helps. But I don't see any of this contributing to that sort of outcome.

McNeese and the Southland may regret the Cowboys turning down the WAC when it's all said and done.

Those roided out McNeese teams of the 90s aren’t coming back, but tradition is important for the conference and with the exit of Sam, McNeese has the richest history of any remaining teams.

I think FBS ambitions are stupid for McNeese, but we need to get back to our winning ways. To do that, they need find some boosters with money, and I’m not how many of those we have.

Why? A move up to the FBS is an instant multimillion dollar injection into the school/athletic program. With that they can finally start paying a decent salary for coaches and get FBS teams into the Hole which will bring in more crowds/revenue.

ULM should drop to FCS and join Southland, but I know they won’t.

Doubtful. McNeese doesn't have this massive, diehard fanbase like it used to. Some fans want to act like people got tired of watching the same ole teams, but how is the Southland any different than being in any other league where you play the same teams every year?

A change of "scenery" isn't going to make people want to watch McNeese, especially if it's teams like Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Sam Houston, New Mexico State, UTEP, or Liberty. Hell, I know people that only go to the games to tailgate...and sit at their tailgate to watch LSU. Even when McNeese was undefeated, it wasn't drawing massive crowds. People were still more interested in LSU and all of the other games they would watch on TV.

I've never understood why some people are so hell bent on McNeese moving up. I've always felt trading the history with Sam Houston, Southeastern, Northwestern, Nicholls, Lamar, etc. for a bunch of random schools and some random bowl game in mid-December just isn't appealing. If McNeese ever moves up, I'd hope for the Sun Belt where we would at least have ULL and ULM with some shared history.

Moving up gives you the opportunity to schedule those games again, even if they aren’t in the same conference at the time. Those games would be the large crowd draws. I’m not saying they would be packing the stadium regularly but there would be a difference in crowd size on average.

Yeah, because of the visiting team's fans.

McNeese does not have a dedicated fanbase like they did when they were winning in the 90s and early 2000s. Moving up and being able to play ULL or Southern Miss at home isn't changing that unless this team starts winning and winning consistently--including in the postseason.

Never go west

I doubt the SLC- A-Sun rumor is true because it would be one of the most idiotic decisions of all time for mcneese to join the WAC over that

They got tired of Louisiana teams being financial drains and had bigger dreams

Texas schools minus SHSU got tired of the Louisiana ones dragging their nuts across their foreheads on the gridiron

Lamar for example was getting pounded before "moving up" and is complete shite at every sport that matters
