Lovely, because that is EXACTLY what I said.
Of course he is entitled to his opinion, and fine if the name doesn't offend him. But the name is OBVIOUSLY offensive to other people. Of course, if the name is offensive, they should just get over it. Right? Hypocritical much?

Where does this stupidity stop? You can't cater every single individual and their need for attention.
Atheists probably are offended by the Saints, ancestors of folks who's villages were pillaged by pirates and vikings are offended there, and people who have eaten by bears are offended by that name.

I stated a fact, not an opinion. The NCAI feels differently than the poster who said he wasn't offended by it.

I don't think a Redskin is overly derogatory. There are plenty of other things in this world we should be getting our panties in wads about. Not the Washington Redskins.

And this raises an excellent point. There are names out there that do, in some way, stereotype a particular race/ethnic group. The poster above comically referred to the "Fighting Irish". It is a great point.
However, I think you have to go beyond the name. What was the oppression? How long did it last? These factors are important for the analysis.
Personally, I find the name "Redskins" to be overly derogatory and incredibly inappropriate.
