Redskin is a racist term for native Americans, and the original team knew that when they chose the name.

True or false?

Its a shame that we will just have to ignore it but I guess that's what we have to do. Just tune it out.

Seriously. It dominates all of zero topics on zero sports talk shows. It's like "enough already," right?

The conversation would be very different, were the team named the Washington n-words.

I guess this is different somehow.

Maybe the football team in Los Angeles will be called the LA Blackskins. Or, maybe the Tar Babies.

This is a good point, and it is much more complicated than the Washington Redskins.

Maybe someone here could help me out, but the Cleveland Browns were not "officially" named after Paul Brown, but everyone knew that's what it meant.

So, they made the team name the "Browns" (plural) and said it was in honor of Joe Louis, the Brown Bomber.

(This really should be its own thread, because it is a great topic, and I would like to thank StraightCashHomey21 for bringing it up).

Now, is the name the Cleveland Browns really named after Paul Brown, or Joe Louis?

Regardless, even if the team was named after "The Brown Bomber", is it the same as the Washington Redskins? The Cleveland Browns is named after one of the greatest fighters who fought in the most crooked time of boxing. The name was in honor of Joe Louis, not in degradation of him.

The Washington Redskins? Teams used names like "Redskins" because Native Americans were seen as savages. That doesn't necessarily seem like an honor to me.

Today, "Redskin" means Washington football player. Maybe it didn't a century ago, but it would be a shame to change the name because of an obsolete definition. And I'm a Native American myself.

Is it really racist? How is it any different than a Brave? Or a Bruin? Or a Raider? Or a Viking?

What are we going to let our teams be called, the Human Beings? Get a fricking life, bro. It's the name of a sports team. Why do people get so asshurt about this stuff. Name a team the Honkeys for all I care.

What? Is this English?

I was only saying that, although he feels one way, the NCAI feels differently.
