Boston Red Sox unveil new uniforms for Patriots’ Day weekend; marathon-inspired ‘Nike City Connect’ jerseys will be worn April 17 and 18
quote:
In a release, the new uniform “adopts colors that honor the spirit of Patriots’ Day weekend, and features ‘Boston’ in a stencil font across the chest paying tribute to the Boylston Street finish line. The numbers ‘617' are highlighted on the left sleeve as a nod to the area code for Boston and Fenway Park. The numbers appear within a racing bib, honoring one of the city’s most iconic annual sports traditions.”

Nike ruins everything. The Red Sox have classic uniforms and the only alternates they should ever wear are the green ones they usually wear on Patriot's Day.

I think they look good. I really don't understand the color scheme though. They look more like the Colombia national flag than anything to do with America, which is a strange choice on Patriot's Day.

Isn't it the colors of the Boston Athletic Association, who runs the marathon?

Blue and yellow are the colors for the BAA and marathon (which takes place on Patriots Day).

Seriously?
The Marathon is traditionally run on Patriot's Day. I mean remember the bombing and also ESPN doing the timelines between events at Fenway and the race?

Ya, but what does that have to do with patriots day? Are they recognizing the day or the race?
quote:
Patriots' Day was first proclaimed in Massachusetts in 1894 by Gov. Greenhalge, replacing Fast Day as a public holiday.[2] The idea was introduced to the Governor by the statesman from Lowell, Isaac Henry Paige. It was established on April 19, commemorating the date of the Battles of Lexington and Concord and the larger Battle of Menotomy in 1775, and consolidating the longstanding municipal observances of Lexington Day and Concord Day. It also marked the first bloodshed of the American Civil War in the Baltimore riot of 1861, during which four members of the Massachusetts militia were slain and 36 injured. In Menotomy, now Arlington,[4] 25 militia men died and 40 British soldiers were killed.[8] The dual commemoration, Greenhalge explained, celebrated "the anniversary of the birth of liberty and union". It is likely that the battles that took place in Menotomy are not as well known as the smaller battles in Lexington and Concord because the town has had several names since that day in 1775. In 1938, with the generation that had fought in the Civil War largely off the voter rolls, the Massachusetts legislature passed a bill establishing the holiday "in commemoration of the opening events of the War of the Revolution".[9]

Boston marathon is one of the biggest in the world. It’s a big deal in the city. Downtown is packed with people who go to race then walk over to Red Sox game. Basically, the marathon and the Red Sox game is patriots day.
The race was moved to October due to Covid.

They are recognizing the bombing that happened during the race is my understanding.
