It really does look like something you can buy on QVC.

and I agree with the OP's rankings. Lord Stanley's Cup is awesome.

I had it third. There's no way anyone can say that the piece of shite O'Brien looks better than the Commish trophy.

Well the MLS has better attendance numbers than the NHL. Call it a minor sport if you feel the need.

My rankings...

1. Lord Stanley's Cup
2. Larry O'Brien
3. Philip F. Anshutz MLS Cup
4. Lombardi Trophy
5. Commissioner's Trophy

And, I would put a gap between 1 and 2, and a wide gap between 2 and 3.

The NHL last year had better attendance than the NBA, if we're going that route. And just for comparision, the Jackets and Crew are in the same city. The Crew is one of the best teams in MLS and the Jackets are one of the worst in the NHL. The Jackets have higher average attendance, by a couple thousand I think. With 30 franchises, you're going to have some that just don't care at all (see Phoenix, Carolina, etc) and bring down the average significantly.

I enjoy the MLS, and usually go to at least 3 Crew games a year, but it's not a major sport. Look at the TV ratings, especially. Maybe it will be someday.

As far as the trophies:

1. Stanley Cup (not even close, either)
2. Lombardi
3. Commissioner's
4. O'Brien

If we are talking just about the trophy itself it's Lord Stanley's cup and then you can choose the order of the other 3 out of a hat. Nothing can compare to the Cup.

I was just throwing a random southern team out there. My apologies to the Canes.

Looking at the list, the Islanders are sad, and the Avs especially. For a playoff team, that's terrible.

Think of the tail that has been gotten by taking the Stanley Cup into a bar. The fact that each player gets to take it for a day makes it the best trophy out there.

It was reported on Saturday by ESPN.com that average attendance at Major League Soccer games so far this season has surpassed both the NBA and the NHL for the first time. MLS is averaging 18,453 fans per match through week four, while the NBA and NHL are at an average of 17,111 and 17,005 respectively.

It's early in the MLS season but it is impressive that a 15 year old league is semi-competing with the big boys.

I'm amazed the Cup hasn't been lost, banged up in a drunk driving crash, etc.

Anyway, the Cup is clearly the greatest trophy ever. What other trophy could spawn books just about the trophy itself? And the "everybody gets it for a day" thing is ridiculously cool.

Lombardi is a clear #2, and then both other trophies kind of suck, but the O'Brien sucks more. I love baseball, but that is an unwieldy trophy.

1 Stanley
2 Lombardi
3 Commish
4 O'Brien

By the way, I remember it being discussed but can't remember the options with the Stanley Cup becoming unwieldy. I know the discussion centered on the fact those rings they keep adding can't go on forever, so what do they do? Make a new one?

My list matches up w/ the OP

1. Lord Stanley's Cup-and it's not close. Best championship trophy on Earth by far.

2. Commissioner's trophy-Seems underrated by some in this thread. I think it's b/c that picture doesn't really do it justice. It's bigger and cooler in person than it looks.

3. Lombardi-Sweet, simple, classic.

4. Larry O'Brien-meh
