...is just plain pitiful. It is so fricking frustrating to watch this team. Where did the hitting go...

Finally a breakthrough!

Murph with a two run dong

Looks like the Bo Sox left Smoltz in too long.

What? I've been a Rangers fan for almost 20 years. I've endured a lot of bad teams. But even on those bad teams, they still hit the ball.

I was just making a point that it is frustrating, given the talent level on offense, for the Rangers not to be hitting.

It's amazing how they've steadily declined from the beginning of the season. Kinsler is down to under .250 right now.

He's been downright awful since May. I would move him to the six hole and install Murph as the leadoff hitter..but Ron knows better than I. That's why he makes the big bucks.

Dallas sports radio is killing me with their constant bashing of the Texas offense. Quick stat check.

Texas runs per game: 4.89
AL average runs/game: 4.79

Seriously, this offense is above average by definition. Should they get on base more? Certainly. Is Salty a strikeout machine? Yes. But the team is third in slugging and scores runs at above average rate. Furthermore, if you can’t figure out a platoon with Murphy, Byrd, and Jones with two positions to use (LF and DH), you are literally too stupid to manage a major league team.

Davis was sent down to AAA about a month ago. He is actually tearing up OKC. I know it’s limited at bats, but try and figure out who is who based on their slash stats (AVG/OBP/SLG):

340/393/640
328/449/481

And one of those lines was put up in AA. Smoak walks (a lot) more, but Davis has so much more power. Smoak looks like the second coming of Wally Joyner. Davis, if he can cut down on his strikeouts, looks like Ryan Howard. But I’d settle for Carlos Pena (low average, tons of power).

Yeah..most of those people are idiots.

Interesting...good stat..didn't look at it this way.

My issues are this: Murph should be in the lineup everyday as should Byrd. Jones is batting a robust .230; Salty is hitting a phat .240 and Kinsler is below .250.

They also hit poor with runners in scoring position.

Here are some stats:

Texas is 8th in the AL in runs, 11th in hits, 12th in average (.255), 12th in walks, and 13th in OBP.

Kinsler is killing the team at the top of the lineup.

The team in 7th in runs (Toronto), has scored two more runs and has played two more games.

Team AL ranks, to be fair and not cherry pick our stats (not to say you were):

Runs – 8th
SB – 3rd
BB – 12th
SO – 1st
HR – 1st
BA – 12th
OBP – 13th
SLG – 2nd
OPS – 5th

OK, so what conclusions can we draw? This team has a low BA and really poor plate discipline. They swing for the fences, which results in tons of HR’s but also tons of K’s. They score at a slightly above league average rate.

Is the offense broken? Not really. But it is cracked. The team really does need to walk more. Their tendency to swing at the first pitch is infuriating. They swing on the first pitch 33% of the time. That seems really high to me.

The numbers for June were horrifying. The team hit 225/288/388 as a team in June, which is simply awful. The team has bounced back because, well, no team is THAT bad offensively. Most of the needed improvement in the offense will happen without making any real moves (Hamilton getting healthy, Kinsler getting out of his slump, Davis being removed from the lineup).

This is what I was getting at with the original post. They frustrate the hell out of me.

I hope you're right. I am very skeptical about Kinsler. It seems that teams have figured him out. I really, really think that Ron needs to take pressure off him and put him in the 6 or 7 hole. That's just me.

Davis was sent down July 7 when they activated Hamilton. Davis has played in 77 games with 258 AB and hit .202 with 15 HR

I didn't realize Blalock is playing 1B for them right now. Blalock should be a member of the Red Sox, he is exactly what they need and he wouldn't cost the Sox too much in a trade. Saito or Delcarmen would fit in nicely in texas

Smoak is batting .135 since being called up to OKC.

To be fair Baloo, I believe their numbers since June 1st (or so) are below (well below) the AL average.

I posted their June slash stat numbers, which were awful. They have since rebounded in July, so I think it's just the drag of a truly terrible June, and not a continuing trend.

God, it seems like Davis has been gone longer. He was a sieve in the order. The offense has looked better without him.

Well, this is pretty indicative:

340/393/640 – Davis in AAA (in 54 AB's)
328/449/481 – Smoak in AA
