What the hell?

If the count is 3-0 and you don't want a batter to possibly hit a home run, don't throw him a pitch that could be hit out of the park. Don't let the count get to 3-0. Don't let the bases get loaded.

Unwritten rules are so frickin' stupid.

It's as bad as a football team whining when they get scored on late. Don't want us to score? Stop us then.

People like to shite on baseball but every sport has unwritten rules or certain standards of sportsmanship that some believe in and some don't. It's not baseball specific.

That being said, I don't see how this falls into anything like that. A 10-3 lead is not safe in the top of the 8th. The Rangers had 2 more at bats. If they scored 5 in the 8th would they have laid down in the 9th? Of course not. Plus, baseball players don't tank at bats because the score is lopsided. Stats matter and affect their pay. This is a bad look all around.

If Tatis didn’t swing, was the pitch gonna be a strike or was it an intentional walk type pitch?

Because if he was still trying to throw strikes to get him out, then frick the Rangers

I can't stand that stupid unwritten rule.

You fight to get 3-0 and are supposed to let the picture throw a meatball over the plate to get an easy strike.

Frick That

You asking if they were trying to intentionally walk him down 7 with the bases loaded to force in a run?

The pitch was as strike.

Don’t throw a meatball down the middle on 3-0 with the bases loaded to the best hitter on the team. Plain and simple.

I was asking a question that I already knew the answer to in order to make my point. They were trying to get him out so don’t get pissed when he tries not to

That is incredibly soft.

I can't believe they would criticize such a thing.

Especially in a shortened season.

probably next time he will take a pitch??? what the heck is going on.. a walk can just prolong the game longer too..

also, what is the pitcher doing serving him up a grand slam pitch on the 3-0 count? i just don't understand this unwritten rule whatsoever.

so is he not suppose to swing the entire AB?

WTF

Whats really stupid is...it wasn't even a bad pitch. It was a fastball low and away and Tatis drive that shite out to right center. Fantastic swing.

If you don't like it....don't fall behind 3-0...throw frickin strikes.

Is a 7 run lead really all that safe in this madness of a season

No way. Stros we’re down 8 to the Twins a year or two ago. Came back and won by 5 or 6. A 7 run lead is a lot but not big enough to start changing how you play. Managers in this situation sound like a bunch of bitches. Muh unwritten rules!

The sign was given by the bench/manager who believed it was time to call off the dogs

You couldn't be more more wrong. It was done because the manager knows that are people put there that actually are about stupid shite like this and that the next hitter would get a pitch thrown at him (which he immediately did).

Has nothing to do with "calling off the dogs". God that sounds so gay

It’s pretty lame criticism, players get contracts based on their production and he is an MVP level player, RBIs and HR matter

He shouldn’t lay off a meat ball because the rangers want to back to jerking each other off in the shower

How is it sportsmanship????

Also, how is taking a pitch calling off the dogs?? Is he suppose to just not swing the entire AB?? And risk possibly a strike out?

Why is he even in the game then at this point???

Sportsmanship should be about respect of another professional player.. So what is they want to green light a 3-0 count regardless of any score? Did they not earn that count? It's professional sports..

This is just another example of pussification of the times. It's so ridiculous at this point. As a pro you shouldn't get your feelings hurt because a dude his a grand slam off you in a blowout game. If anything.. aren't those easier to swallow than losing a close game? I rather lose big.

I was coming to ask a similar question. Let's say Tatis follows "proper etiquette"; what is supposed to happen when the count is 3-1? Can he swing without breaking the rules? If he takes a ball, would that not be embarrassing to the pitcher? Is he supposed to let the pitcher get him out to make the other team happy while he fricks up his stats?

The whole thing is bullshite, but it's made worse by the fact that it was just a 7 run game. What is the magical lead in the unwritten rules in which you have to stop trying?
